Java Software Engineer

Job Title: Java Developer Location: Newcastle (Hybrid, 3 days onsite) Contract: 12-Month FTC (with strong potential to become permanent) Clearance: SC Eligible Overview: We are looking for a Java Developer with strong experience in Java (JDK 11+), Spring Boot, and Microservices development to join a large-scale technology programme. You will be responsible for building secure, scalable, and maintainable enterprise applications while working within Agile delivery teams. Key Skills & Experience Strong commercial experience with Java (JDK 11+) and Spring BootExperience developing Microservices and REST APIsExperience with WebLogic Server and CAS SDKCloud deployment experience, ideally AWSExperience working with Docker/ContainersStrong understanding of:Test Driven Development (TDD)Continuous Integration (CI)Continuous TestingCoding Standards & Code ReviewsExperience working in Agile/Scrum environments Responsibilities: Develop and maintain enterprise applications using Java and Spring BootDesign and support Microservices architecturesCollaborate with Cloud, Infrastructure, DevOps, and Testing teamsContribute to secure and scalable cloud deploymentsSupport automated testing and quality assurance activitiesParticipate in Sprint Planning, Stand-ups, Reviews, and RetrospectivesFollow engineering best practices and coding standardsAdditional Responsibilities (CL9 / SFIA 5) Review code and mentor junior developersDrive engineering best practices and continuous improvementCollaborate with Architects and DevOps teams on solution designSupport delivery across the full software development lifecycleSecurity Clearance Eligibility Candidates must: Be a UK National or hold Settled StatusHave 5 years of continuous UK residencyNot have spent 30 consecutive days or more outside the UK within the last 5 yearsBenefits 23 days holidayCompany pensionRelocation support up to £1,500Strong opportunity for permanent employment after the FTC
