Frontend Engineer – AI Startup Location: San Francisco, CA Work Model: Hybrid – 4 days onsite per week Employment Type: Full-time Experience: 3–6 years Salary: $170,000–$250,000 per year About the Company A fast-growing, venture-backed AI startup is building an agentic platform that helps enterprise consulting teams manage complex SAP transformation projects and workflows. The platform is already being used by leading global consulting and systems integration firms. The company is looking for its first dedicated Frontend Engineer to take ownership of the frontend experience and establish scalable frontend engineering practices. This is an opportunity for a hands-on engineer who enjoys building products from the ground up, working closely with product design and backend engineering teams, and delivering high-quality user experiences in a fast-paced startup environment. About the Role As the first dedicated Frontend Engineer, you will own the frontend development of an AI-powered enterprise platform. You will translate product designs into polished, responsive interfaces and establish the architecture, reusable components and development practices needed to support the product's growth. You should be comfortable working independently, making technical decisions, moving quickly and taking features from concept to production. Key Responsibilities Build and maintain core product interfaces used by enterprise consultants and teams to manage complex SAP projects and interact with AI agents.Collaborate closely with the product designer to translate UX designs into responsive, accessible and production-ready interfaces.Establish frontend architecture, reusable components, shared patterns and development practices from scratch.Improve application performance, rendering, state management, data flow, caching and loading, error and empty states.Partner with backend and full-stack engineers to integrate APIs, work with data models and deliver end-to-end product functionality.Build intuitive interfaces for AI-powered workflows, enabling users to review, guide and approve AI-generated actions.Use AI-assisted development tools to accelerate implementation while maintaining code quality and reliability.Incorporate customer feedback, analytics, performance monitoring and session-replay insights to identify friction and improve the user experience.Required Qualifications 3–6 years of professional frontend engineering experience, preferably in an early-stage, high-growth, venture-backed startup.Strong proficiency in JavaScript, TypeScript, React, HTML and CSS.Experience with Next.js and modern frontend application development.Demonstrated experience building frontend systems, reusable component libraries, design systems or shared frontend architecture.Experience owning product features end to end, from gathering feedback and defining solutions through implementation and production release.Experience building interfaces for AI-powered products, especially workflows involving AI-generated recommendations, agent actions, user reviews or approvals.Strong understanding of frontend performance, state management, responsive design and application reliability.Ability to work independently, take initiative and deliver in an environment with limited existing frontend infrastructure.Bachelor's degree required.Preferred Qualifications Experience as a founding engineer, early employee or frontend engineer at an early-stage startup.Experience building AI agents, AI copilots or LLM-powered applications.Experience with Node.js and Python or working closely with backend services.Experience using product analytics, performance monitoring and session-replay tools to improve product outcomes.Experience at leading technology companies, including Apple, or an academically strong background.
