Description

Our client is a growing legal services firm which is going from strength to strength. They are investing in developing a suite of products and services and are now looking for an experienced front end developer to join their dycnamic team. Frontend Web Developer Position Overview We’re seeking a pragmatic, execution-focused frontend developer who thrives on keeping products that people actually use running, improving and shipping. You will join a small technical team as the day-to-day custodian of a suite of internally built web applications in daily use across our international offices. The role begins with technical support, bug fixes, and feature implementation on these live systems, with a path to owning the suite Technical Requirements Core Frontend Skills • Vanilla Web Technologies: Extensive experience with HTML, CSS, and vanilla JavaScript (React/Next.js not required) • Node.js Backends: Comfortable reading, debugging, and extending Node.js/Express REST API servers • SQL: Confident writing and debugging T-SQL against large production databases, with the care and discipline live data demands • API Integration: Proven ability to integrate frontend applications with RESTful API endpoints and third-party APIs • Authenticated Applications: Experience with multi-role web applications (SSO, role-based access control) • Azure: Working knowledge of Azure App Service, deployment slots, log streaming, and Azure DevOps repos and pipelines • Testing Expertise: Strong experience writing and maintaining unit, subsystem, and system tests for frontend applications, and the discipline to verify in staging before touching production • LLM-Powered Development: Extensive hands-on experience using Claude and other LLM models for code generation, debugging, and code review processes • LLM Integration In-Product: Experience shipping LLM-powered features to end users (API integration, streaming responses, prompt payloads, graceful error handling) Development Approach • Rapid Iteration: Demonstrated ability to maintain extremely fast project/feature shipping cadence • Show, Don't Tell: Strong adherence to "iterate by showing" methodology rather than endless planning discussions • Production Instincts: Respect for live systems, reproduce first, fix at the root, verify in staging, deploy cleanly, watch the logs • Design Instincts: Solid intuition for web page layouts, interaction design, and user journey mapping (tools agnostic - Figma, PowerPoint, whiteboard sketches all welcome) Preferred Additional Skills • Internationalisation: Experience building multi-language user interfaces and translation-friendly frontends • Configuration-Driven UI: Experience building dynamic, configuration-driven interfaces such as form builders or template engines • Voice & Speech Interfaces: Experience with speech-to-text, transcription API integration, or voice-driven UI • Mobile Development: Experience building iOS/Android applications, particularly with Flutter • Browser Extensions: Ability to develop Edge/Chrome extensions • Microsoft Ecosystem: Experience building applications for Microsoft native applications (Outlook, etc.) that leverage Microsoft Graph API Professional Qualities Communication & Leadership • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills - most issues arrive as plain-language reports from non-technical colleagues • Ability to engage effectively with non-technical stakeholders, translate a vague complaint into a precise defect, and close the loop when it is fixed • Capable of independently driving fixes and features from report or concept through to verified resolution in production • Strong system architecture instincts with ability to quickly converge on project requirements Mindset & Approach · Battle-Hardened: Experienced with failure, learning, and perseverance through multiple project cycles · Completion-Focused: Understanding that project success is measured by user adoption, not feature completion · Anti-Shiny Object: Ability to resist temptation of new technologies when focus should be on grinding through current priorities · Stakeholder Engagement: Strong skills in scoping functional and technical implementation, prioritization, and planning Personal Characteristics · Personable & Collaborative: Solid people skills, approachable, no ego or academic elitism · Mission-Oriented: Willing to upskill, pivot, or abandon work as business needs require · Agency Embodied: Self-motivated, proactive, with internalized drive to map goals to actions · Pragmatic Executor: Focused on results Work Environment You'll be working with 1-2 technical colleagues and hundreds of non-technical team members. Success in this role requires someone who can bridge technical and business domains while maintaining focus on practical outcomes over technical perfectionism. What They Value · Shipped products that people use · Speed of execution over architectural purity · Business impact over technical achievement · Collaborative problem-solving over individual heroics · Practical solutions over elegant code This role is ideal for a developer who has learned that the best code is code that solves real problems for real users, and who finds satisfaction in seeing their work drive actual business outcomes.
