Growth Engineer
San Francisco, CA | $120,000–$200,000 base salary | Full-time, in-office
About the Company
Join an ambitious, AI-native music-learning company building a consumer product designed to make learning music more engaging and accessible.
The team combines technology, AI and a strong understanding of how people learn, with a focus on delivering a product that users love and return to.
With organic growth already gaining momentum, the company is looking for an engineer who can turn product insights into measurable growth.
About the Role
As a Growth Engineer, you will own the technical side of growth, building and testing product experiences that attract users, improve conversion and increase retention.
This is a hands-on engineering role, not a data analytics or marketing position.
You will identify opportunities, form hypotheses, build product interventions, run A/B tests and measure their impact.
You’ll own the entire process, from understanding why users drop off to implementing and refining solutions that improve key metrics.
You’ll work across the web product, with opportunities to expand into the mobile app over time.
Your work will span product-led growth, conversion optimisation, lifecycle email, programmatic SEO and experimentation infrastructure.
What You’ll Do
Own growth experiments end to end: Identify opportunities, develop hypotheses, implement solutions, run A/B tests and iterate based on results.Improve user conversion and retention: Investigate metrics such as activation, engagement and churn, then build targeted interventions to improve them.Build high-quality user experiences: Implement polished front-end features and intuitive UI flows that feel thoughtfully designed, not hastily assembled.Develop product-led growth mechanics: Create features and experiences that naturally encourage users to engage, return and discover more of the product.Build programmatic SEO experiences: Explore scalable acquisition opportunities, including dedicated pages for individual songs and interactive mini-games.Improve lifecycle engagement: Build or enhance email flows and other mechanisms that bring users back at the right moment.Build the tools behind growth: Develop dashboards and experimentation systems that help the team understand performance and make better decisions.Expand across platforms: Focus initially on the web experience, with the potential to contribute to mobile growth initiatives over time.
What We’re Looking For
Around 2+ years of relevant engineering experience, although curiosity, initiative and demonstrated impact matter more than years of experience.Strong full-stack engineering skills, with particular strength in front-end development and UI/UX implementation.Experience personally building and running growth experiments, ideally using A/B testing and funnel analysis. The ability to connect product changes to measurable outcomes, using statistics and data to understand what works.A builder’s mindset: you can take ownership of a metric, identify the underlying problem and ship a solution without needing step-by-step direction.Strong product intuition and attention to detail, with the ability to create user experiences that are both functional and visually polished.Experience using AI-assisted coding tools while maintaining ownership of the quality, design and correctness of your work.
Experience That Could Be a Great Fit
We’re particularly interested in engineers who have worked in environments where experimentation and iteration are central to growth, including:
Growth engineering or product engineering teams at consumer technology companies.Gaming companies with a strong culture of A/B testing and rapid experimentation.Consumer apps where engineers directly influence acquisition, activation, engagement and retention.Teams building lifecycle marketing tools, programmatic SEO platforms or scalable content-driven acquisition experiences.
An interest in music, music education or learning new instruments is a plus.
Working Arrangements
Location: San Francisco, California.Working model: Full-time, in-office.Schedule: Approximately 9 AM–5 PM, with the flexibility and commitment expected in an early-stage startup.Compensation: $120,000–$200,000 base salary.Visa sponsorship: Available for qualified candidates.
Interview Process
The process is designed to assess both your engineering ability and how you approach real growth problems.
It includes a take-home exercise using user data provided by the company, reference checks and a paid one-day working trial in the San Francisco office.
Who Will Thrive in This Role?
You’ll thrive if you enjoy combining engineering, product thinking and experimentation.
You want to understand why a metric is moving, build something that could change it, and use real results to decide what to do next.
If you’re an engineer who doesn’t just analyse growth opportunities but actually builds, tests and ships the solutions, this is an opportunity to have a direct impact on a growing consumer product.
