Staff Software Engineer – Node.js Location: Bratislava, Slovakia The Role Our clients looking for a Staff Software Engineer – Node.js to join their Shared Capabilities and Commercial Services business unit. This is a high-impact engineering role focused on capabilities that sit at the heart of the product portfolio. You’ll combine hands-on engineering with technical leadership, helping shape both the products and the engineering practices that support them. You’ll work closely with product, engineering, architecture, and business stakeholders to turn strategic objectives into scalable technical solutions. You’ll also play a key role in evolving their engineering standards, mentoring engineers, and driving best practices across teams. Responsibilities Shape technical direction by contributing to and leading decisions around major capabilities, helping teams translate business and product objectives into clear, actionable technical roadmaps.Act as a technical subject-matter expert for your domain, defining clear boundaries and capabilities while ensuring services meet business and product needs across the wider technology platform.Lead through hands-on engineering, designing and developing new capabilities, evolving existing systems, and championing modern software engineering practices.Mentor and support engineers, sharing knowledge, providing technical guidance, and helping teams continuously improve their engineering capabilities.Own features end-to-end, from technical design and implementation through to operational performance, scalability, reliability, and ongoing improvement.Drive architectural excellence, designing and implementing high-quality, maintainable systems and APIs across multiple domains.Champion engineering best practices, including clean code, automated testing, observability, maintainability, and continuous delivery.Communicate complex technical concepts clearly, working effectively with engineers, architects, product teams, and senior business stakeholders.Help strengthen the product engineering culture, encouraging teams to balance technical excellence with customer and business outcomes. Requirements They’re looking for an experienced engineer who combines strong technical depth with product thinking and the ability to influence across teams. You’ll bring Proven experience delivering large-scale, customer-facing software, particularly backend services and the integration of applications and data.Strong experience applying Domain-Driven Design (DDD) principles and an API-first approach, ideally within complex or multi-tenant platforms.A strong background in full-stack software engineering, with a consistent focus on sound software design principles such as SOLID, GRASP, and established design patterns.Strong proficiency in TypeScript and Node.js, or deep expertise in another backend language such as Java, .NET/C#, Kotlin, Python, or Go, together with the ability and willingness to work with Node.js.A proven product engineering mindset, with the ability to translate business and product requirements into effective technical designs and pragmatic delivery roadmaps.Experience making architectural decisions and balancing scalability, reliability, maintainability, delivery speed, and business value.Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to influence technical direction without relying solely on formal authority.A passion for mentoring engineers and helping teams raise their technical standards. Bonus Points Experience with AWS cloud architecture and infrastructure.Experience working with LLMs and Generative AI.Experience building highly scalable, distributed, or multi-tenant platforms.Experience working in Sports, Gaming, or other high-volume consumer technology environments.
