As a hands-on Lead Java Engineer, you will provide technical and delivery leadership for a PropertyIQ engineering team. You will lead medium-to-large initiatives, set a high standard for engineering quality, and be the go-to person for resolving complex technical challenges across the team. You will own the technical direction of significant components of the PropertyIQ platform, making and guiding architectural decisions across Angular applications, Java and Spring Boot services, APIs, integrations, event-driven workflows, and supporting data layers. You will ensure solutions balance immediate business and delivery needs with the platform’s long-term goals for scalability, reliability, security, maintainability, and operational excellence. Working closely with product, delivery, business and technology stakeholders, you will translate business goals into clear technical outcomes. You will lead technical discovery and solution design, break complex initiatives into deliverable components, manage technical dependencies and risks, and ensure important decisions are communicated and carried through to production. You will remain close to the code while creating an environment in which the wider team can deliver effectively. This includes establishing engineering standards, reviewing critical designs and code, unblocking engineers, mentoring team members, supporting their development, and facilitating onboarding and knowledge sharing. You will play an active role in production and platform health. You will lead the technical response to significant incidents, drive root-cause analysis and systemic remediation, and ensure the team appropriately prioritises reliability, security, vulnerability remediation, technical debt and operational readiness. You will also help shape the team’s engineering culture by championing responsible AI-assisted software engineering. You will identify opportunities to use AI-enabled practices to improve software quality, developer productivity, delivery efficiency and continuous learning. What You Offer Deep full-stack engineering experience across Java 17+, Spring Boot, Angular and cloud-native platforms.Proven experience setting technical direction and making architecture decisions across frontend, backend, APIs, integrations and data platforms.Strong understanding of designing scalable, resilient, observable, secure and maintainable distributed systems.Experience leading the technical delivery of medium-to-large initiatives from discovery and design through production rollout and ongoing support.Strong knowledge of microservices, event-driven architectures and API design.Ability to remain hands-on with code while leading engineers and driving engineering excellence across a team.Experience establishing engineering standards across architecture, code quality, testing, CI/CD and production readiness.Strong understanding of platform health, operational excellence, incident management and reliability engineering.Proven ability to mentor engineers, unblock complex technical challenges and uplift team capability.Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to influence technical and business outcomes.Proven experience using and championing AI-assisted engineering tools such as Claude Code, Copilot or Gemini CLI to improve quality and delivery outcomes.Applied understanding of security, privacy, technology obsolescence, regulatory compliance and operational risk management. Nice to have AWS architecture and operational experience.Experience with Kafka, event-driven architectures and distributed workflows.Experience driving platform modernisation, re-platforming or legacy transformation initiatives.Exposure to platform engineering and internal developer platforms.Knowledge of property, strata, banking or financial-services domains.
