The Principal Engineer is our most senior engineering contributor within the Wealth domain.
You will provide deep technical leadership across multiple squads to ensure our consumer wealth systems and services are secure, scalable, and sustainable.
This role combines architectural thinking, hands-on technical expertise, and strategic influence to shape the long-term technical vision for our platforms.
Operating as a critical bridge between business stakeholders and engineering teams, you will translate wealth business strategy and regulatory mandates into robust technical solutions.
This includes leading business-critical enhancements, driving alignment with industry standards such as ASX CHESS upgrades, and navigating a diverse technology ecosystem spanning COBOL, .NET, Java, and SQL.
In this role you’ll get to…
Lead the design and evolution of core systems for Leveraged Margin Lending and Sandhurst Trustees Fund Management.Shape technical direction by simplifying complexity through modularisation, decoupling, and defining strong interface contracts.Act as the primary technical translator, bridging the gap between complex wealth business concepts and robust engineering architectures.Promote and embed best practices in testing, observability, security, performance, and CI/CD.Uplift engineering quality by systematically reducing technical debt across core processes, APIs, and applications.Act as a senior mentor and technical coach to engineers at all levels, fostering a culture of technical excellence.
What you’ll bring to the role
To be successful in the role you will have:
Proven ability in software architecture, integrated and distributed systems design, and large-scale platform evolution.Demonstrated hands-on engineering capabilities across COBOL, .NET, Java, and advanced SQL.Strong knowledge of consumer wealth operations, including leveraged equities/margin lending and fund management.Familiarity with market connectivity protocols, clearing and settlement operations (e.g., ASX CHESS).Deep expertise in resilience, observability, performance optimization, and security-by-design for financial transaction systems.Outstanding communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to translate technical complexities into clear business outcomes.
