Role Description This is a part-time unpaid volunteer role requiring approximately 6 hours per week. eMigr8 is at pre-seed stage and its engineering team is building the platform infrastructure that powers global talent mobility tools. You will provide technology support across multiple OKRs, working on backend development tasks, bug fixing, API integrations, and code review support alongside the core engineering team. This role suits junior software engineers who want structured, real-world engineering experience contributing to a live product. Responsibilities - Work on backend development tasks including feature builds and improvements to existing platform functionality - Investigate and fix bugs identified through testing or user feedback - Build and maintain API integrations with third-party services used across the platform - Participate in code reviews, giving and receiving constructive feedback - Write clear documentation for technical work completed, including code comments and integration notes - Coordinate with the wider engineering team to understand priorities and flag blockers early Qualifications - Studying or working in software engineering, computer science, or a related field - Proficiency in at least one backend language (Python, Node.js, or similar) - Understanding of REST APIs, version control (Git), and basic software development workflows - Ability to read existing codebases, understand context, and contribute without breaking things - Good written communication for remote collaboration and documentation Benefits of Volunteering - Make a tangible impact on the trajectory of a promising AI-focused startup. - Sharpen your expertise in backend engineering and platform development within a live production environment. - Gain valuable experience in the intersection of AI, technology, and global talent mobility. - Expand your network within the startup, technology, and international mobility communities. - Potential for future paid opportunities as the company scales and secures funding.
