For one of our clients we are looking for a Senior Python Backend Developer (m/f/d) to help build and scale AI-powered procurement applications as part of the AI Forge platform. You will play a key role in taking AI-powered prototypes and turning them into robust, scalable and production-ready enterprise applications. Your focus will be on backend development with Python, building reliable APIs and services, and creating the technical foundation needed to bring AI use cases into production. You will work closely with Data Scientists, Frontend Developers, Product Owners and Cloud Engineers in an international environment. Senior Python Backend Developer (m/f/d) – AI Applications Working model: Up to 100% remote after onboarding in Erlangen, subject to individual agreement Your Responsibilities Design, develop and maintain scalable Python backend servicesBuild and maintain REST APIs and integrate backend services with frontend applicationsDevelop data pipelines and backend services for AI-powered applicationsTurn existing prototypes into secure, maintainable and production-ready softwareBuild APIs using FastAPI or FlaskApply asynchronous programming and modern Python development practicesDesign scalable and maintainable software architecturesImplement authentication and authorization using OAuth2 and JWTWork with PostgreSQL, SQLAlchemy and data modelsImprove application performance, scalability and maintainabilityImplement logging, monitoring and robust error handlingTroubleshoot and debug applications in productionWrite unit and integration tests and contribute to code reviewsHelp establish technical standards, architecture guidelines and best practicesWork closely with Data Scientists, Frontend Developers, Product Owners and Cloud Engineers Your Background 5+ years of professional experience in Python backend developmentStrong track record of building and running production-grade backend applicationsExcellent knowledge of PythonHands-on experience with FastAPI or FlaskGood understanding of asynchronous Python and object-oriented programmingStrong experience designing and developing REST APIsExperience with OpenAPI / SwaggerKnowledge of OAuth2 and JWTSolid experience with PostgreSQL and SQLAlchemyStrong understanding of data modellingExperience with software architecture and design patternsStrong focus on clean, maintainable codeExperience writing unit and integration testsExperience with performance tuning and production troubleshootingExperience working in cloud-native environmentsExperience with AI/LLM applications is a strong plusCompleted vocational training, university degree or comparable professional qualificationFluent in EnglishStructured, analytical and independent approach to work AI & Technology The role focuses on the backend side of AI-powered applications.
