Description

Amsterdam · hybrid · full-time · 3–7 years · EU work authorization required Who we areBonnie is the AI assistant that answers the phone for local businesses (mainly for the Hospitality sector) across phone, WhatsApp and chat. 500+ businesses in 14 countries use us today. Millions of conversations, each one a real customer who expects an answer now. Engineering is small and broad: a handful of engineers across data, APIs, DevOps, AI agents and cloud, plus a designer. Everyone ships to production, and everyone talks to the businesses using Bonnie. The loop from a change to a restaurant owner telling you what they make of it runs in days, not quarters. The roleYou own how Bonnie looks and feels: the Dashboard hundreds of restaurant owners open every day, the channels their guests actually touch, the configuration experience that decides how easy Bonnie is to set up, and bonnie.ai itself. This is a full-stack role that leans frontend. React and TypeScript are where you are deepest and where most of your week goes, but features here do not stop at the API boundary. You add the endpoint, read the data model, and debug through the stack rather than filing a ticket. The team is backend-heavy, so you would be our first engineer dedicated to the product surface: the component system, the performance budget and the accessibility bar are yours to set rather than inherit. You work daily with our designer, who will push back on you as hard as you push back on them. The stack: React, TypeScript, Tailwind, shadcn/ui and TanStack Query on the front; Python and FastAPI, MySQL and Postgres, Docker behind it. Claude Code, Codex and Cursor in the daily loop. Your first project could be improving our dashboard where restaurant owners see in one glance the value that Bonnie brings to their business, across multiple channels. Or the Unified Inbox, where business owners see per channel the satisfaction score of end-users and which interactions require a follow-up. What you’ll doShip the Dashboard. Where owners configure Bonnie, review conversations and decide whether to trust us with their phone line. Make it faster and clearer.Build the guest channels. The embeddable WhatsApp widget that starts a conversation from a restaurant’s own site, the web chat, and the surfaces after those.Own the configuration experience end to end — the schema-driven forms, the live preview, the validation, and the endpoints underneath them.Turn conversations into legible UI. Live transcripts, call playback, simulations. Making audio and conversation editable and trustable is the core craft of this role.Own bonnie.ai as product, not as a marketing site. It is the first conversation we have with every customer.Set the bar on component system, accessibility, performance budgets, and how we use AI across the dev loop.Run what you build. Deploys, and a two-week support shift that comes round about once every two months. Outside office hours is light (historically a few hours on an incidental Saturday, roughly once a quarter). Mostly we keep an eye because we built Bonnie and we care how it behaves, not because a rota says so. What you bring3+ years building production frontends in React and TypeScript. Past the framework debate, with opinions on state management, forms and where complexity belongs.Genuinely full-stack. You add an endpoint when the feature needs one, read the data model, work in Docker, and chase a bug through the stack instead of handing it over. Our backend is Python and FastAPI — Python on your CV is not a requirement, being willing to work in it is.Shipped with a modern frontend stack: Tailwind, a headless component library (Radix, React Aria, shadcn or similar), and a real data layer (TanStack Query or equivalent).Depth in forms and configuration UIs (react-hook-form, Zod or similar), and a view on how to keep them sane as they grow. The boring states done well — empty, loading, error, slow API with accessibility and performance treated as part of the work, not a later ticket.Design judgement you can defend. You push back on a design when it feels off and arrive with an alternative. Point us at something you shipped rather than describing your taste.AI-native, with accountability. Coding agents are in our daily loop. Use them, and explain, test and own what they produce.Amsterdam area and EU work authorization. We do not sponsor visas today. Extra credit: schema-driven UIs and builder or editor experiences · real-time or audio UIs (Twilio Voice SDK, LiveKit, WebRTC) · embeddable widgets that live on someone else’s site without breaking it · auth flows (OAuth, OIDC) · marketing sites that perform (Next.js, Astro) · RevOps and in-product growth tooling (Customer.io, Segment, PostHog) · 0-to-1 work at an early-stage startup. Not ideal ifYou want a spec handed over. We scope our own work here. You see UI details as polish for later.Your work stops at the API boundary and the backend is someone else’s problem. You want your work to stop at the merge. We built Bonnie and we keep an eye on it, which occasionally means outside office hours. How we hireIntro call, 30 minutes online. What you have built, and why it was hard.Technical conversation, 60 minutes at the office. Your work first, then a real piece of ours.Case, 2 hours of your time: audit our live Dashboard and rebuild it your way. Reviewed async, then a 90-minute walkthrough together — that conversation is the part that decides it. We tell you up front what we score.Culture chat with one of our founders, 45 minutes. No more assessment: the last check, both ways.Offer. Under three weeks from first call to decision, and an answer within three working days at every step. What we offerSalary: €55,000–70,000 gross per year, including 8% holiday allowance.25 holiday days a year.Meaningful equity through our ESOP.A brand new office on the Herengracht believe me, its niceee.Full setup: a fresh MacBook, the tools you ask for, and a budget for the rest.Quarterly team events, and the whole team together every few months.Real customers: Loetje, 3WO, Dudok, Ron Gastrobar and a growing list across 15 countries.
