Java Developer

Job Title: Java Developer Duration: 06 Months Contract to Hire Type: 3 days/week onsite (hybrid) Location: Mississauga, ON About the Role: We're looking for a senior, architect-level engineer who can sit alongside our front-office users, including underwriters, bankers, and business stakeholders, and turn their needs into reliable, well-designed software. You'll be embedded with the business, owning solutions end to end: understanding the problem, designing the architecture, and building and shipping the work. The role is heavily backend, with enough front-end fluency to deliver complete solutions. You'll also use AI-assisted development tools (such as Devin and GitHub Copilot) to move faster without lowering the quality bar. What You'll Do: Work directly with underwriters, bankers, and other front-office stakeholders to understand workflows, pain points, and requirementsTranslate business needs into scalable technical architecture and clear designsDesign and build backend services and APIs, primarily in Java and Spring BootBuild and enhance user-facing features in Angular (or React) to deliver complete, usable solutionsModel and manage data across relational and NoSQL stores (Oracle, MS SQL Server, MongoDB)Use AI coding tools to accelerate development, testing, and documentation, and review AI-generated output criticallySet technical direction, conduct design and code reviews, and mentor other engineersCommunicate trade-offs, timelines, and risks clearly to both technical and non-technical audiencesSupport solutions in production and iterate quickly based on user feedback Required Qualifications: Significant experience as a senior or architect-level software engineer, with a track record of designing and delivering production systemsStrong backend expertise in Java and Spring Boot (REST APIs, microservices, security, performance tuning)Hands-on experience with Oracle and/or MS SQL Server, plus MongoDBWorking knowledge of front-end development, with Angular preferred and React also welcomePractical experience with AI-assisted development tools such as Devin and GitHub CopilotExcellent communication skills and comfort working directly with business users, including senior stakeholdersAbility to work independently, manage ambiguity, and own outcomes Preferred Qualifications: Proficiency in Python for services, scripting, or data workExperience in financial services, banking, or underwriting environmentsPrior forward-deployed, solutions engineering, or client-facing technical rolesExperience with cloud platforms, CI/CD, and containerized deploymentsFamiliarity with event-driven architectures and messaging systems Tech Stack: Java, Spring Boot, Angular/React, Oracle, MS SQL Server, MongoDB, Python, Devin, GitHub Copilot
