About The Role
We are looking for a Senior Geological Engineer / Senior Engineering Geologist to join our team in the Midlands.
The ideal candidate will have around 5-6 years' experience within ground investigation and engineering geology and be working towards, or have already achieved, chartership.
This role offers a mixture of site and office-based work, supporting the delivery of ground investigation and consultancy projects across a wide range of geological settings and ground-related challenges.
You will play an important role within our experienced geological team, taking responsibility for technical reporting, project delivery and the development of junior staff.
Depending on your experience, you will also have responsibility for managing and mentoring a small team of engineers.
Key Responsibilities
Technical
Examine and review geological logging, field testing and field mapping recordsPlan and oversee ground investigations, including drilling programmes and sample analysisSupervise site investigations and ground investigation worksVisit new project sites and provide technical input into project planningProvide advice on geological and ground-related issues, including subsidence, mining legacy and contaminationProduce and review high-quality geological logs, records and interpretative reportsMake recommendations regarding site development and ground conditions
Project and Commercial Management
Manage projects and support successful delivery for clientsProvide quotations and technical proposalsManage and support engineering geologists, geotechnical engineers, consultants and contractorsBuild and maintain positive client relationshipsRepresent GIP at professional conferences and industry events
Health, Safety and Compliance
Promote Quality, Health, Safety and Environment (QHSE) standards across all projectsEnsure works are completed in accordance with company procedures and industry best practiceLead by example and promote safe working behaviours across the team
Team Development
Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior geologists and reporting staffSupport training and professional development across the teamAssist with the management and development of less experienced colleagues
Skills, Knowledge, And Expertise
Bachelor's degree in Geology, Earth Science, Geoscience or a related disciplineMinimum 5-6 years' experience within ground investigation, engineering geology or a related fieldStrong experience in geological logging, ground investigation and technical reportingGood project management skillsExperience using geotechnical software such as OpenGround and HoleBASEStrong communication and interpersonal skillsFull UK driving licence (manual transmission)Ability to mentor and support junior staff
