Senior Golang Engineer #3165 Hybrid – Melbourne, Australia Remote – Australia Offshore – APAC: Contract engagement with a target of 5–8 hours of overlap with the team. Offshore – LATAM: Contract engagement with a target of 4–5 hours of overlap with the team. The Mission What does it take to modernize critical backend infrastructure for a leading Australian banking and financial services organization? Join an enterprise engineering squad working on a large-scale Open Banking and mobile platform ecosystem, helping transition traditional batch processing toward real-time data processing and building resilient services that support millions of customers. You’ll work across Go, Temporal, PostgreSQL, gRPC, Protocol Buffers, AWS, and Kubernetes, helping modernize core backend services while collaborating closely with engineering teams and enterprise stakeholders. The first 2–4 weeks may require onsite work in Melbourne, Australia for context, knowledge sharing, and stakeholder alignment. Candidates must be open to this initial onsite commitment and have, or be able to explore, the appropriate Australian working visa options. Melbourne-based candidates open to a longer-term hybrid engagement are especially desirable. The Role Backend Engineering & Architecture: Lead the design, development, and modernization of highly scalable backend services using Go or Java, with a focus on high-concurrency, distributed, and production-critical systems.Workflow Orchestration: Build and maintain durable workflows using Temporal or equivalent workflow orchestration frameworks, supporting long-running processes, retries, state management, and fault-tolerant execution.APIs & Data Platforms: Design and optimize PostgreSQL schemas and queries while building robust gRPC and Protocol Buffers APIs for distributed backend services.Real-Time & Cloud Modernization: Help transition traditional batch architectures toward real-time polling, event-driven processing, or streaming, leveraging AWS, Kubernetes, and EKS to deliver resilient cloud-native services.Security, Reliability & Operations: Build secure enterprise services with strong practices around vulnerability management, automated security scanning, patching, testing, observability, and production reliability.Technical Leadership & Collaboration: Drive architectural decisions, mentor engineers, troubleshoot complex production challenges, and collaborate directly with engineering teams and client stakeholders to deliver high-quality solutions. The "Must-Haves" 5+ years of senior backend engineering experience with strong proficiency in Go or Java, particularly in high-concurrency and distributed systems.Production experience with Temporal or equivalent durable workflow orchestration frameworks for long-running, stateful, and fault-tolerant processes.Strong experience with PostgreSQL, including schema design and query optimization, plus deep experience with gRPC and Protocol Buffers.Experience modernizing batch architectures toward real-time data polling, event-driven processing, or streaming, with production experience in AWS, Kubernetes, or EKS.Experience building secure, resilient enterprise backend services and willingness to work onsite in Melbourne for the first 2–4 weeks, with appropriate Australian work authorization or a viable visa pathway. The "Bonus" Skills Experience in financial services, Open Banking, OAuth2 consent management, financial APIs, or secure transaction processing.Experience with Terraform, Helm, Snyk, automated vulnerability scanning, security patching, or enterprise DevOps practices.Hands-on experience with HashiCorp Vault for secrets management or LaunchDarkly for feature flags and progressive rollouts.Familiarity with mobile synchronization, client-side caching, offline-first architectures, SQLite, or highly resilient distributed systems.Exposure to AWS and GCP, along with strong shift-left testing, automation, and security practices.
