Backend Developer, Java & Spring Boot

Job Title: Backend Developer – Java & Spring Boot Experience: 3–6 Years Employment Type: Contract (Hybrid) Location: [Amsterdam, Netherland] Department: Technology / Engineering Job Overview We are looking for a skilled Backend Developer with strong experience in Java and Spring Boot to design, develop, and maintain scalable, secure, and high-performance backend applications. The ideal candidate should have hands-on experience developing REST APIs, microservices, database-driven applications, and integrating backend services with frontend applications and third-party systems. Key Responsibilities Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend applications using Java and Spring Boot.Develop and maintain RESTful APIs and microservices.Write clean, efficient, reusable, and maintainable code.Design and implement business logic and backend services.Integrate backend services with frontend applications and external/third-party APIs.Work with relational and/or NoSQL databases to design efficient data models and queries.Identify and resolve performance, scalability, and production issues.Implement appropriate security, authentication, and authorization mechanisms.Write unit and integration tests to ensure application reliability and quality.Participate in code reviews and follow software development best practices.Collaborate with frontend developers, QA engineers, DevOps engineers, and product teams.Participate in technical discussions, system design, sprint planning, and Agile ceremonies.Monitor and troubleshoot applications in development, staging, and production environments.Required Skills Core Backend Skills Strong hands-on experience with Java.Strong experience with Spring Boot.Good understanding of Spring Framework, Spring MVC, and Spring Data JPA.Strong experience in developing RESTful APIs.Good understanding of Microservices Architecture.Strong knowledge of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) and design principles.Good understanding of exception handling, multithreading, collections, and Java fundamentals.Experience with API authentication and authorization such as JWT/OAuth2 is preferred.Database Good experience with relational databases such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, or Oracle.Strong understanding of SQL and database concepts.Experience with JPA/Hibernate.Knowledge of NoSQL databases such as MongoDB or Redis is an advantage.Development & Tools Experience with Git/GitHub/GitLab.Familiarity with Maven or Gradle.Experience with unit testing frameworks such as JUnit and Mockito.Understanding of CI/CD practices.Knowledge of Docker is preferred.Exposure to cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP is an advantage.Preferred Skills Experience working in a microservices-based environment.Knowledge of messaging technologies such as Kafka or RabbitMQ.Understanding of caching technologies such as Redis.Knowledge of Docker and Kubernetes.Experience with cloud-based application deployment.Understanding of system design, scalability, and performance optimization.Candidate Profile Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.Good understanding of software development life cycle.Ability to write clean, scalable, and maintainable code.Good communication and collaboration skills.Ability to work independently and as part of a development team.Strong willingness to learn new technologies and adapt to changing requirements.Education Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
