About the role
We’re hiring our first dedicated Senior DevOps / Platform Engineer to take ownership of Smaily’s core infrastructure and delivery platform, building on the work of our technical leads.
Your initial priority will be leading our migration from a self-hosted, bare-metal private cloud to a hybrid infrastructure model built around Scaleway Cloud.
Our email delivery infrastructure will continue to run on a permanent bare-metal tier.
This role focuses on infrastructure, reliability and automation—not product development.
MailOps expertise is not required.
You’ll be based in or near Tallinn, Estonia, working mostly remotely with occasional in-person collaboration at our office.
Responsibilities
Lead the architecture and migration of our core infrastructure to Scaleway Cloud while preserving the bare-metal delivery tier.Own our Terraform and Ansible codebase, ArgoCD GitOps pipelines, and CI/CD runners using Buildkite and Depot.dev.Manage networking and platform services across cloud and bare-metal environments, including Cilium CNI, Nebula SDN, AWS Route53 and HashiCorp Vault.Develop operational and disaster recovery playbooks, manage platform upgrades and retirements, and maintain observability using Grafana Cloud, Alloy, OpenTelemetry, Prometheus and Loki.Maintain the infrastructure supporting our email delivery engine—KumoMTA, KumoProxy and KumoTSA—and its local monitoring stack.Provide day-to-day platform support for developers and participate in an on-call rotation of approximately 1–2 days per week.
Qualifications
Proven ability to take ownership of existing infrastructure, organise systems and establish SRE practices independently.Advanced Terraform and Ansible skills, together with strong experience operating production Kubernetes clusters and ArgoCD deployment workflows.Production experience operating Apache Kafka and NATS JetStream.Hands-on experience connecting bare-metal and cloud infrastructure, including overlay networking with Nebula SDN and Cilium.Practical working knowledge of Go, Python and Bash for infrastructure automation, pipeline scripting and operational tooling.Experience with Grafana Cloud and operating local Prometheus and Loki instances.Experience operating HashiCorp Vault for static and dynamic secrets management and internal PKI.Good written and spoken English for day-to-day technical collaboration with the team.Based in or near Tallinn, Estonia, and available for occasional in-person sessions.
Estonian language skills are an advantage.

Experience building custom Terraform providers, Kubernetes operators with Kubebuilder, or custom Ansible modules.Experience operating high-cardinality analytical databases such as ClickHouse.
