You will build backend services in Python and/or Rust, prototype and analyze ideas, develop system and performance tests, optimize software, and collaborate with experts across chemistry, physics, mathematics, and computer science.
Highlights
Work at the intersection of software engineering and scientific research, developing high-performance computational tools, collaborating with interdisciplinary experts, and using modern AI-assisted development techniques.
Description
BEIT develops computational tools for drug discovery, combining quantum chemistry-based molecular modelling with efficient HPC and quantum-computer implementations.
We’re looking for a versatile software engineer to help turn scientific ideas into reliable, high-performance software and work closely with our interdisciplinary research team.
Your responsibilities
Develop backend features and services in Python and/or Rust, depending on the project.Prototype and validate early ideas through scripting, data collection, metrics, visualisation and analysis.Design and implement system, integration, and performance tests; profile software and improve its performance.Collaborate closely with drug-design experts, physicists, chemists, mathematicians, and computer scientists to translate scientific requirements into practical software solutions.Use AI coding agents and agentic AI tools to accelerate software development, explore solutions, automate coding tasks, and improve development workflows.
What you bring
Strong software engineering fundamentals, including the ability to discuss system-design trade-offs and apply established software architecture practices.
Good Python skills and basic knowledge of Rust or C++, together with an understanding of data structures, algorithms, code review, and collaborative development.
You should be comfortable designing meaningful system, integration, and performance tests, and willing to work with unfamiliar tools, frameworks, and documentation when a project requires it.
We primarily look for candidates with a degree in computer science, mathematics, or another technical field with substantial programming experience.
Advanced English (C1) is required.
Experience with AWS, Google Cloud Platform or other cloud services, GPU programming with CUDA or OpenCL, frontend development in JavaScript or TypeScript, or an interest in chemistry, physics, bioinformatics or drug discovery is a plus.
Experience with AI coding agents, including Codex or Claude, is a plus.
Help us build robust computational tools that bring advanced scientific methods closer to practical drug discovery.
