Description
About Bubble Goods
Bubble Goods is an online marketplace for independent food and beverage makers, direct from the brand.
Many of our makers sell things you won't find on a grocery shelf.
We're a small team that ships often and leans hard on AI tooling to do the work of a much bigger one.
The role
You'll build the storefront where shoppers meet our makers.
The job is matchmaking: bringing shoppers together with brands they never knew they wanted.
That means showing the right information at the right time, bringing each brand's story to life, and obsessing over how often a shopper finds a maker that's right for them.
We're an early-stage startup, and priorities shift as we learn.
There's no roadmap handed down to you.
You'll work directly with the Chief Product Officer, who still writes code on this storefront, to decide what's worth building, then go build it.
We hire for drive over years of experience, and you'll own a production storefront early.
You'll work mostly remotely, close enough to Princeton, NJ to get together in person now and then.
We'll find the right rhythm together.
What you'll do
Build the storefront
Own front-end work in our Shopify Hydrogen storefront (React, React Router, TypeScript, Tailwind): product and brand pages, discovery, navigation, cart.Build mobile-first, and sweat the details: page speed, image and video loading, transitions, empty states, accessibility.Own storefront bugs, and keep the codebase simple enough that the next person can work in it.
Shape how people discover independent food brands
Find ideas anywhere: social feeds, video, editorial, games, the best stores.
Work out which ones help a shopper find a maker they'll love.Bring prototypes and finished features, not just links, and take a rough idea to something shoppers can use within days.
Flex into growth
Build landing pages and on-site experiences for campaigns, partners and creators.Instrument what you ship in PostHog and look at how shoppers actually use it.Keep the data correct between the storefront, our email and ad platforms, and our analytics.
About you
You're a builder who doesn't wait to be told what to do.
You've shipped things on your own initiative, whether a side project, a store, or a feature nobody asked for that turned out to matter.
Open-ended problems energize you rather than stall you.
You're obsessed with your craft and with how people discover things online.
What we're looking for
Must have
Production experience building web apps in React and TypeScript, or a portfolio of your own projects that shows the same.Front-end work you're proud of and can walk us through: what you built, why it looks and feels the way it does, and what you'd change.Strong CSS and responsive layout, and an eye for detail.
You notice when something is a few pixels off or a beat too slow on a phone.Opinions about ecommerce.
You can name sites whose shopping experience you think is excellent, and what makes them work.AI coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor or similar) are a normal part of how you work, and you can tell when their output is wrong or more complicated than it needs to be.
Nice to have
Shopify experience, especially Hydrogen or the Storefront API.Web performance, motion or interaction design.Native mobile app experience (React Native, Expo, Swift or Kotlin).Product analytics or marketing integrations (PostHog, Klaviyo, Meta or Google pixels and feeds). You've run your own store, side business or startup, and you care about food and the people who make it.
This role isn't right if you:
Want a defined roadmap, or someone to tell you what to work on next.Prefer a large team with senior engineers reviewing every line in real time.Care more about the elegance of the code than whether shoppers love using it.
What success looks like
More shoppers find a brand they didn't come in looking for.You ship storefront improvements every week, with the CPO reviewing rather than co-building.You bring ideas as often as you take them, and some become the storefront's best features. The storefront gets faster and more polished on a phone, release over release.
