Decisions get made over maps. You make sure the maps are fast, right and on time. The geospatial team of an international defence organisation in Brussels supplies maps and spatial data to senior decision-makers and analysts. It needs a GIS developer to build and extend its web mapping applications and the services behind them, working on site with the project manager. What You Would Be Doing Developing and configuring web GIS applications with ArcGIS Maps SDK for JavaScript and other modern frameworksBringing spatial data from classified and unclassified sources into those applicationsConverting and preparing data with Python and spatial ETL toolsSetting up map services, feature layers and tiled data so they load quickly on the webTuning backend queries and map rendering for performanceDocumenting code, service endpoints and architecture, and passing knowledge on to staff What you would bring At least 5 years of web development with modern JavaScript frameworks such as React, Vue.js or AngularHands-on work with a major web mapping SDK - layers, popups, custom widgets and client-side spatial operationsPython for geoprocessing and automation (ArcPy, GeoPandas, Shapely, Rasterio, GDAL/OGR)Backend services or pipelines that expose geospatial functionalityGit, Agile, and a bachelor's degree in computer science, geography, IT or similarAdvanced English; some basic French is helpful Why this one is worth a look It is genuine GIS engineering with a visible end user, on site in Brussels, and it runs under a standing framework with room to continue rather than a one-off project.
