Overview
This position requires an experienced individual who is self-motivated and capable of working independently with minimal supervision, plans and executes the engineering activities assigned by the Technical Lead and/or Technical Manager, resolves routine and complex technical issues, and seeks guidance primarily for "first-of-a-kind", high-risk, interdisciplinary or very complex matters.
The candidate shall be able to independently deliver most of the assigned work, while knowing when to seek specialized help from subject matter expert.
Your role
The qualified individual will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
Perform stress evaluation of piping systems supports (nuclear class or non-nuclear class) in accordance with ASME Section III, Div.1, Subsection NF and/or ASME B31.1/B31.3, ANSI/MSS SP-58 code requirements, including thermal, fatigue, seismic, linear and non-linear analyses.Prepare engineering computations and analyses using applicable software (e.g., PipeStress, Cesar II, MathCAD, GT STRUDL, ANSYS and LS-DYNA, etc.).Model complex piping and support arrangements using finite element techniques.Review of technical documents and drawings (e.g.
equipment General Arrangement drawings, equipment layout drawings, isometrics, pipe supports, flow diagrams and P&ID), calculations, design/analysis reports, design requirements, design manuals, bill of materials, design specifications, technical specifications, data sheets, etc.Review 3D piping model and equipment layout.Prepare technical documents, such as engineering drawings (including GA, ISO, custom pipe support drawings, piping supports standards), bill of materials, piping supports calculations, piping supports design/analysis reports, piping supports design basis reports, piping supports design specifications, technical specifications, component data sheets, etc.Support preparing TSSA CRN registration packages for pressure boundary systems and associated piping supports, where applicable.Function as technical interface with client, suppliers, inter-discipline engineering teams, construction partners and project management groups.Perform site visits to client and supplier shops as required.
Support field construction and execution activities, as needed (site visits are required).Perform engineering work following AtkinsRéalis/Candu Energy QA programs, and applicable codes, standards, and regulation requirements.
About You
Engineering Degree in Mechanical or Civil & Structure from an accredited university or equivalent degree as recognized by Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) is required.Registered or eligible to be registered as a Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario (mandatory requirement).Minimum 10 years of related work experience in mechanical engineering within a heavy industrial environment such as power, mining, oil & gas, etc.
(knowledge of nuclear power systems would be an asset).Design experience with piping stress analysis for power, mining, oil & gas, etc., (knowledge of nuclear power piping systems stress analysis per ASME III, Div.
1, is an asset).Experience in piping stress analysis using PipeStress, AutoPipe, Cesar II, or other similar software program is an asset.Working knowledge of CSA B51, CSA S16, ASME B31.1, ASME B31.3, ANSI/MSS SP-58, ASME Section VIII, ASCE, NBCC, AISC, and other applicable codes, standards or regulatory guides related to process equipment for power, mining, oil & gas, etc.
(knowledge of nuclear power plant systems codes and regulations such as CSA N285.0, CSA N289, CSA N291, ASME Sec III is an asset).Must be able to work independently, define result oriented approach, perform or oversee the analysis, and drive conclusion based on technically sound defensible solutions.Provide technical mentorship and guidance to junior/intermediate engineers.Handle complex or "first-of-a-kind" problems with limited direction, and recognize technical risks, limitations, and when escalation is necessary.Estimate the efforts for given tasks and provide input to the technical work plan.Demonstrate good interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment.
Other Aspects
Working knowledge of CSA N285.0, CSA N289, CSA N291 and ASME Section III, and other applicable standards or regulatory guides related to nuclear plant components, pressure boundary equipment, and/or reactor systems is preferable.Design engineering experience in nuclear class 1, 2, 3 and 6 piping systems, and its associated supports for Nuclear Power Plants is preferable.Eligible to obtain Security Clearances through Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC) is mandatory (for Candu internal and Client organization).May be required to obtain Nuclear Energy Worker (NEW) status, as required by task assignments.
Travels to client job sites are required.Experience with time-history analysis (water hammer, pressure surge, etc.
transient loads implementation) for piping systems is an asset.Qualification in the last five (5) years as a Specialized Professional Engineer to ASME Section III Division 1, Appendix XXIII is preferable.Experience in supervising and coordinating a small team of engineers/designers for stress analysis activities is an asset.Experience with stress analysis/supports design for steam piping systems in nuclear power plants is an asset.
