Position Summary
We are seeking experienced IBM i System/36 Developers to support the modernization of legacy IBM System/36 applications.
The successful candidates will be responsible for analyzing existing applications, converting legacy System/36 components to modern IBM i technologies, performing remediation activities, and validating functionality through comprehensive testing.
This role requires deep technical expertise in System/36 environments, OCL, and RPG II, along with proven experience converting legacy applications to CL and RPG IV (ILE RPG).
Key Responsibilities
Analyze existing System/36 applications, job streams, menus, and screen flows.
Convert Operational Control Language (OCL) programs and processes to IBM i Control Language (CL).
Convert RPG II applications to RPG IV / ILE RPG while preserving business functionality and application integrity.
Review and remediate converted code to improve maintainability, performance, and compliance with modernization standards.
Perform unit testing, integration testing, and support user acceptance testing activities.
Investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve issues identified during remediation and testing.
Modernize System/36 screens and menu structures.
Document application functionality, conversion approaches, remediation activities, and testing results.
Collaborate with technical teams, business stakeholders, and quality assurance resources throughout the modernization effort.
Participate in code reviews and contribute to technical best practices and knowledge transfer activities.
Required Skills And Experience
Technical Skills
Strong experience working in IBM System/36 environments.
Extensive experience with Operational Control Language (OCL).
Strong RPG II development and maintenance experience.
Hands-on experience converting OCL to CL.
Hands-on experience converting RPG II applications to RPG IV / ILE RPG.
Experience with IBM i application modernization initiatives.
Strong understanding of batch processing, job scheduling, and legacy application architectures.
Experience performing conversion remediation and code optimization activities.

7+ years of IBM midrange development experience.
