About The Role:
Go Car Credit is a specialist motor finance lender supporting those with less than perfect credit scores to get behind the wheel.

To support strategic growth, we’re looking to build out our in-house engineering team and are looking for a Mid-Level Software Engineer to support the next phase of platform growth and modernisation.
You will be joining the Business Change team during a time of major in-house technology buildout, where you will have real ownership and help to shape the future business critical platform!
Working hours are 37.5 hours per week Monday to Friday, however due to the level of the role we would expect some flexibility.
Responsibilities:
You’ll be working on a high-volume application platform primarily built in Laravel, contributing to new feature development, platform improvements, APIs, integrations, and ongoing modernisation work.
This is a hands-on engineering role where you’ll work closely with senior engineers and technical leadership to develop new functionality, maintain and modernise existing applications, and improve the performance, reliability and scalability of a business-critical platform.
Developing and delivering new backend functionality using PHP and LaravelMaintaining and improving the existing customer application platformSupporting the ongoing migration and modernisation of legacy CakePHP components into LaravelBalancing day-to-day BAU development with wider platform upgrade and improvement workDesigning, building and consuming RESTful APIs and third-party integrationsWorking with MySQL and relational databases to build reliable, performant solutionsWriting clean, maintainable and well-tested code, and participating in code reviews and contribute to improving engineering standardsTroubleshooting application issues and support production stabilityParticipate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, stand-ups and reviewsProactively identifying opportunities to improve code quality and platform performance
What you need:
Commercial software development experience using PHPGood hands-on experience with LaravelStrong understanding of PHP frameworks and modern development practices Strong understanding of MySQL and relational databasesExperience building or consuming RESTful APIsGood understanding of object-oriented programming and modern development practicesExperience using Git and working within collaborative development environmentsAn understanding of testing, code quality and maintainable softwareProactive attitude with a willingness to take ownership and solve problemsStrong communication and collaboration skills
