Description

Role: Design Engineer Type: Contract Location: Remote within Canada About the Role This role is built for someone who operates at an AI-native pace. We expect tools like Claude, Figma (including Figma Make and Dev Mode), Cursor, and Vercel v0 to be core parts of your daily workflow. You will move from idea to clickable prototype to shipped feature in days rather than weeks, using AI to rapidly explore design directions while applying rigorous design judgment and engineering discipline. Key Responsibilities Own the complete UI/UX lifecycle from user discovery and workflows to wireframes, high-fidelity designs, and production implementation.Translate validated designs into clean, production-ready front-end code in Angular and TypeScript, accelerating implementation using AI coding assistants (Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot).Leverage AI design and prototyping tools (Claude, Figma Make, Vercel v0) to quickly generate, compare, and iterate on interactive concepts.Put working prototypes in front of users and stakeholders early and often to drive rapid iteration.Create and maintain a shared design system and component library (design tokens, reusable components, usage guidelines) in both Figma and code. Build AI-assisted workflows connecting design to code.Craft clear, efficient interfaces for complex dashboards, maps, real-time status views, and configuration workflows.Ensure all deliverables meet accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1 AA) and maintain high standards for usability, security, and maintainability. What We’re Looking For 4+ years of experience bridging UI/UX design and front-end engineering. A portfolio showcasing both design work and shipped production code is required.Strong front-end skills in HTML, CSS/SCSS, and TypeScript, with proven experience in Angular. (Experience with React, Next.js, and Vercel deployments is a plus).Demonstrated, hands-on experience using modern AI tools (Claude, Vercel v0, Cursor, GitHub Copilot) in a professional setting. You can speak concretely to how these tools accelerate your delivery and quality.Strong-level proficiency in Figma (components, variants, auto layout, prototyping, and Dev Mode) paired with a solid foundation in UX principles, information architecture, and interaction design.Experience building or maintaining design systems and component libraries.Experience designing complex, data-heavy enterprise or operational applications (dashboards, mapping/GIS, real-time monitoring) or traffic/transportation domain experience is highly desirable.Bachelor’s degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Computer Science, Interaction Design, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).
