# Senior Backend Developer ## About the Role Wyden is seeking a Senior Backend Developer to design and implement strategic features for its core digital asset trading technology platform. You will work on advanced, scalable, and modular trading infrastructure supporting banks, brokers, and financial institutions in the institutional digital asset ecosystem. The role involves distributed systems engineering, cloud-based services, low-latency trading infrastructure, and quantitative trading strategies. You will collaborate closely with product management, development teams, leadership, and customers while working with modern cloud technologies and industry best practices. ## Key Responsibilities * Design and implement future releases of the Wyden platform. * Develop key infrastructure components including: * Low-latency order management. * Execution algorithms. * Smart order routing. * Event handling. * Business services. * Design and build distributed systems and architectures. * Develop and operate services in cloud environments. * Contribute to quantitative trading strategies for clients. * Collaborate closely with product management, development teams, the Head of Development, and customers. * Apply current industry trends and software engineering best practices. * Design systems with resilience, fault tolerance, and reliable failure handling. * Implement and maintain secure authentication and authorization mechanisms. * Focus on performance optimization and low-latency system design. * Work with modern AI-assisted development tools. ## Required Qualifications ### Experience & Education * **8–10 years of engineering experience required.** This is a hard criterion. * Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience. * Strong professional experience designing and building distributed systems. ### Programming * Exceptional proficiency in Java and/or Kotlin. ### Distributed Systems & Architecture * Strong knowledge of distributed systems and architectures. * Experience with asynchronous and event-driven systems. * Understanding of idempotency and replayability. * Experience with API and schema versioning. * Strong knowledge of resilience, failure handling, and fault-tolerant system design. * Experience with performance optimization and low-latency systems. ### Messaging & Cloud Technologies * Experience with messaging systems such as Kafka and/or RabbitMQ. * Strong AWS experience, including cloud-based application development and integration testing. * Experience with Docker and Kubernetes. * Experience with AWS EKS and container orchestration. ### AI-Assisted Development * Strong practical use of modern AI-assisted development tools. ## Preferred Qualifications * Experience in financial services. * Experience in trading or capital markets. * Experience in cryptocurrency or digital assets. * Passion or professional interest in the institutional digital asset ecosystem. ## Work Arrangement & Location * **Employment Type:** Full-time * **Work Arrangement:** Remote * **Preferred Location:** Within approximately 90 km driving distance of Lisbon. * Willingness and ability to travel for in-person meetings with colleagues, potentially several times per month. * The company also has a development hub in Poland. * Wyden is established in Zurich, Switzerland. ## Industry & Job Function * **Industry:** FinTech / Financial Technology / Digital Asset Trading * **Job Function:** Information Technology / Software Engineering * **Specialization:** Backend Development / Distributed Systems / Cloud Engineering
