# Backend Engineer (Sylius | Symfony) ## About the Role Digt is a fast-growing Swiss e-commerce scale-up that has been transforming the Swiss e-commerce market for more than five years. Through platforms including Brands for Employees, Brands for Students, the MyAXA Deals Platform, and TWINT Superdeals, Digt provides exclusive access to products and services for closed communities. Digt is looking for a Backend Engineer with strong PHP, Symfony, and Sylius expertise to take ownership of the core services behind its commerce platforms and internal ERP. You will work closely with the Lead Backend, CTO, Frontend, DevOps, QA, and Product teams to build new services, extend existing applications, and improve the scalability, reliability, performance, and security of business-critical systems. ## Key Responsibilities * Design, implement, and extend backend features using PHP, Symfony, and Sylius. * Build and maintain REST and GraphQL APIs for frontends and external partners. * Model business domains using Doctrine ORM. * Write performant database queries and manage database migrations. * Apply caching and performance optimization using technologies such as Redis, query tuning, and HTTP caching. * Extend Sylius through plugins, custom resources, and events to support business workflows. * Integrate third-party services including payment, CRM, PIM/ERP, and messaging systems. * Implement asynchronous processing using Symfony Messenger and RabbitMQ. * Write clean, maintainable, efficient, and testable code. * Apply Test-Driven Development (TDD) where appropriate. * Use Domain-Driven Design (DDD) and event-driven design when appropriate. * Contribute to GitLab CI/CD pipelines, code reviews, and automated quality assurance. * Improve system observability through structured logging, metrics, and tracing. * Apply security practices including OWASP fundamentals and authentication/authorization. * Collaborate with Lead Backend, CTO, Frontend, DevOps, QA, and Product teams. * Break down features, estimate work, and deliver iteratively within Scrum. * Document services, contracts, and integration patterns for reuse and onboarding. * Work with business stakeholders when required to ensure technical solutions align with operational requirements and customer value. ## Required Qualifications ### Experience * Several years of professional backend development experience. * Approximately 5+ years of experience with PHP and Symfony. * Hands-on experience with Sylius or a similar e-commerce framework. * Experience building and consuming APIs using REST and/or GraphQL. * Solid experience with relational databases, including MySQL or PostgreSQL. * Experience with schema design and database performance tuning. * Experience using Git and Git-based development workflows. * Experience working in an agile development environment. * Ability to manage multiple projects and shifting priorities. ### Technical Skills * PHP * Symfony * Sylius * REST APIs * GraphQL * Doctrine ORM * MySQL and/or PostgreSQL * Git / GitLab * CI/CD * Backend architecture * Database design and performance optimization * Agile / Scrum ### Professional Skills * Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. * Ability to write clean, efficient, maintainable, and testable code. * Effective cross-functional collaboration. * Proficiency in spoken and written English. * Genuine enthusiasm for technology, programming, and continuous learning. ##
