Savannah River Mission Completion (SRMC) is seeking an Engineer/Scientist - Computational Hydrogeological/Hydrological Modeler to be based in our Aiken, SC location on the Savannah River Site (SRS). The Computational Hydrogeological/Hydrological Modeler develops, implements, and defends complex fate and transport models to evaluate natural/engineered systems that act as barriers to contaminant transport. Models will be used to support regulatory documentation to advance radioactive waste management projects at the SRS. In addition to modeling, the candidate will prepare technical reports to document their models, perform checking and reviews of work performed by peers, and will interface with regulatory stakeholders, facility engineering and operations, and Department of Energy (DOE) customers. Developing defensible conceptual and mathematical models of natural and engineered barriers, and the related fate and transport of hazardous chemicals and radionuclides in the environment.Providing leadership in the creation, documentation, and maintenance of environmental flow and transport models.Collaborating with colleagues throughout the DOE Complex regarding environmental flow and transport models.Supporting SRMC contributions on technical matters related to environmental flow and transport models with the DOE Low-Level Waste Disposal Facility Federal Review Group (LFRG), the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), the South Carolina Department of Environmental Services (SCDES), and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).Contributing to the fulfillment of project and organizational objectives as a team member dedicated to demonstrating long-term compliance of disposal and closure actions.Other duties as assigned. Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Geosciences, Computer Science, or other related field from an accredited university or college. All teleworking arrangements must be approved at the discretion of Management on a case-by-case basis based on a number of factors, including - without limitation - business need, the nature of the job, employee experience, management preference, and state-by-state legal compliance/requirements.Candidate(s) selected to receive an offer will be offered the position and salary grade level commensurate with their experience and qualifications.Master’s with 3yrs+ experience; or a Ph.D. degree in Engineering, Geoscience, Computer Science, or other related field from an accredited university or college.Experience in flow and contaminant transport modeling calculations specifically PORFLOW, GoldSim, COMSOL, PFLOTRAN, MODFLOW 6, or MOOSE.Experience with coding quantitatively using Python, R, C++, and Fortran.Experience with sensitivity analysis and uncertainty analysis.Experience with geochemical modeling software, such as PHREEQC and Geochemist’s Workbench.Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present to audiences with varied degrees of subject matter knowledge.
