Your role in our team
As our new Advanced Software Engineer, you will play a key role in the development and evolution of Terma SPECTRA, our Software Defined Radio modem and platform for satellite communications and ground-station applications.
You will work at the intersection of software engineering, digital signal processing, RF systems and satellite communications, helping to design and implement advanced technologies for demanding operational environments.
The position offers the opportunity to contribute across the entire software lifecycle, from requirements engineering and architecture to implementation, verification, maintenance and operational support.
You will also support customers and stakeholders in the integration and operation of ground-station solutions.
You will join Terma Space R&D - Power & Ground Systems in Vienna, working in a highly specialised and multidisciplinary engineering environment.
The team develops advanced satellite communications and ground-system technologies, with expertise spanning software, DSP, SDR, RF, FPGA and systems engineering.

How you will make a meaningful contribution
Your key responsibilities include:
Develop and evolve the Terma SPECTRA, Software Defined Radio (SDR) modem and platform for satellite communications and ground-station applications, designing and implementing advanced SATCOM and 5G-NTN algorithms, waveforms and coding schemes, including OFDM, spread-spectrum techniques, ranging and interferometry.Drive the architecture and technical design of the SPECTRA product, contributing innovative capabilities, new product features, and conducting technical studies and investigations into emerging technologies related to RF communications, sensors and signal analysis.Deliver high-quality software across the full software development lifecycle, including requirements engineering, analysis, architecture and design, implementation, unit testing, integration testing, system verification, maintenance and operational support, ensuring reliable and maintainable solutions for demanding satellite ground-system environments.Collaborate across software, DSP, FPGA/CPU architectures and RF hardware domains to support effective hardware/software integration and contribute to the design and development of RF test systems, including RF-SCOE where applicable.Support business development and innovation initiatives by contributing to proposals for new projects, technology developments and R&D activities that advance Terma's communications and satellite capabilities.Act as a technical interface towards customers and stakeholders, supporting the development, integration and operation of ground-station systems while producing clear technical documentation and delivering software and documentation in accordance with agreed quality, schedule and project requirements.
Bring your world class expertise into play
You are fluent in English both in writing and verbal at a professional level.
German is an advantage but not a requirement.
Moreover, we are also looking for a new colleague with the following qualifications:
Degree in Software Engineering, Telecommunications, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Communications Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, or a related technical discipline, combined with relevant professional experience in software engineering and advanced communication systems.Strong software engineering background with advanced programming skills in C, solid proficiency in C++ and Python, and hands-on development experience in GNU/Linux environments.Proven expertise in Satellite Communications (SATCOM), Digital Signal Processing (DSP), Software Defined Radio (SDR), and digital communications, with the ability to apply complex theoretical concepts in practical solutions.Experience with professional software development practices, including requirements-driven development, software lifecycle management, test-driven development, integration testing, and system validation.Strong systems-level understanding across software, DSP, FPGA, and RF domains, with experience in technologies such as satellite communications, SDR, RF systems, FPGA/DSP architectures, CCSDS/ECSS standards, or advanced communication technologies including OFDM, 5G/6G, and 5G-NTN.
As a person you are analytical, curious, and proactive, and takes ownership of technical challenges and approaching problems in a structured and systematic manner.
You are comfortable working in multidisciplinary environments, communicate effectively with engineers, customers, and stakeholders, continuously seek to expand your knowledge, and thrive in a role that balances innovation, product evolution, and the delivery of high-performance, reliable ground-system solutions.

Location and starting date
This is a full-time position to be located at Terma’s premises in Vienna, Austria or Darmstadt, Germany starting ASAP.

The base pay is composed of the amount according to the Collective Agreement of the Austrian Electrical and Electronics Industry which is at least EUR 3.888,53 gross per month (x 14) and an overpayment depending on your qualifications and experience.
