Senior Backend Software Engineer - AI Systems

We need a senior backend engineer with 5-10 years of experience who has hands-on industry experience building agentic systems and working with LLMs. You should be deeply technical — able to understand algorithms, data structures, and system design at a fundamental level — and have a proven track record at early-stage or high-growth startups. You'll serve as a technical lead and set the standard for engineering excellence on a small, high-caliber team. Work experience Experience building scalable backend systems (distributed systems, large- scale data processing, information retrieval, and asynchronous workflows, etc) Education Formal degree required; self- taught or bootcamp graduates are not accepted. Hard skills Industry experience with TypeScript & AWS Industry experience designing and building agentic systems, LLMS / generative AI (minimum 12 months) Soft skills Fluent in English (reading, writing, and speaking) Miscellaneous Ability to work on- site 5 days a week in San Francisco, CA (local or immediate relocation only) Does not require visa sponsorship Baseline Seniority 5 - 10 years of experience as a backend software engineer Nice-to-have Work experience Prior work experience at early- stage or high- growth startups
