DevOps & Systems Engineer

Zillion Bits Ltd is looking for a DevOps & Systems Engineer to join our IT team in Malta. You will work closely with our Senior Systems Administrator and CTO, helping to maintain and support our cloud infrastructure, servers and development environments. This is a hands-on role for someone who already has experience in IT, systems or cloud technologies and wants to develop further in DevOps, cloud infrastructure, system resilience and cybersecurity. We are looking for someone with good technical foundations, a practical approach to problem solving, and a willingness to learn and grow within the role. What You'll Do Your day-to-day responsibilities will include: Help maintain and support our AWS and Microsoft Azure environments.Support and maintain Linux and Windows servers.Monitor servers, cloud services and applications and respond to alerts.Carry out system updates, patching and routine maintenance.Monitor backups and assist with recovery and resilience testing.Support networking, DNS, VPN and access-related tasks.Assist Developers with deployments and infrastructure-related issues.Help maintain CI/CD and deployment processes.Support cybersecurity activities, including patching, vulnerability remediation and access reviews.Troubleshoot infrastructure and system issues together with the Senior Systems Administrator and other technical teams.Keep technical documentation and operational procedures up to date.Follow change-management, security and operational procedures.As your experience grows, you will have the opportunity to take responsibility for additional systems and projects. Resilience & Cybersecurity System resilience and cybersecurity are important parts of this role. Working with the Senior Systems Administrator and CTO, you will help: Keep servers and cloud services secure, patched and monitored.Ensure backups are running correctly and support regular recovery testing.Monitor infrastructure and security alerts.Identify and help resolve vulnerabilities.Support disaster recovery and resilience testing.Assist with security reviews, penetration tests and remediation work.Maintain appropriate system access and security controls.Support infrastructure and cybersecurity incident investigation when required. Working With the Team This is a collaborative role. You will work closely with the Senior Systems Administrator and CTO, who will provide guidance on larger infrastructure, security and architecture decisions. What We're Looking For Ideally, you will have: 1-3 years of relevant hands-on IT experience in systems administration, cloud support, DevOps, infrastructure or a similar role.Practical experience with AWS and/or Microsoft Azure.Experience supporting Linux and/or Windows Server environments.A good understanding of networking fundamentals, including DNS, VPNs, firewalls and IP networking.Experience with monitoring, backups and troubleshooting.A good understanding of basic cybersecurity practices.Familiarity with Git and software deployment processes.Some scripting or automation experience using Bash, PowerShell or Python.Good problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.Good written and spoken English.The ability to work effectively with Developers and other teams.A willingness to learn new technologies and take on additional responsibility over time.
