Description

About Scrumconnect Consulting Scrumconnect Consulting is a multi-award-winning digital consultancy, recognised for delivering impactful and innovative technology solutions across UK government departments. Our work has positively influenced the lives of over 40 million UK citizens. We are passionate about user-centred design, agile delivery, and building digital services that make a real difference. Our teams work at the forefront of innovation, helping organisations transform and deliver high-quality, scalable solutions that truly matter. Role Overview We are seeking a talented and experienced Senior Next.js Developer at SFIA Level 4 to join our multidisciplinary agile teams and help deliver world-class digital services for UK government clients. You will lead the development of modern, accessible and performant front-end applications using Next.js, in structured and governed environments where quality, accessibility and user experience are paramount. You will be a core member of a blended agile delivery squad of civil servants and supplier staff at a large-scale UK government agency, building user-centred, high-volume digital services. These services support nearly 5 billion digital interactions and tens of millions of customer transactions each year. You will take ownership of designing, building and supporting accessible, responsive front-end applications using Next.js and React, integrating them with a modern API-first ecosystem built on Java Spring Boot and AWS serverless technologies. You will take on complex technical challenges, champion modern engineering standards, and mentor colleagues to raise the capability of the whole team. Key Responsibilities ● Software development: Design, build and support robust, user-centred web applications using Next.js, React and modern JavaScript/TypeScript, writing clean, performant and maintainable code. ● API integration: Integrate front-end interfaces with backend Java Spring Boot microservices and AWS serverless components such as Lambda and API Gateway. ● Standards and accessibility: Ensure services meet the GDS Service Standard, WCAG 2.2 accessibility guidelines and secure-by-design principles. ● Agile collaboration: Work within blended, multi-supplier agile squads alongside Product Owners, Agile Delivery Managers, Business Analysts and SDETs to define acceptance criteria and deliver value in iterative sprints. ● Quality and CI/CD: Strengthen CI/CD pipelines and embed automated testing practices (TDD/BDD) for high-quality releases and reliable services. ● Service assessments: Contribute to production readiness and formal government service assessments across discovery, alpha, private beta and live. ● Mentorship and leadership: Share knowledge, conduct code reviews and coach team members to build in-house capability and support long-term service ownership. Essential Skills and Experience ● Core programming: Deep, commercial expertise building scalable web applications with Next.js, React.js and modern front-end tooling. ● Public sector delivery: Proven experience delivering secure, user-centric digital services aligned to the GDS Service Standard in complex, high-volume government environments. ● Accessibility first: Comprehensive understanding of inclusive design and strict adherence to WCAG 2.2. ● Modern architecture: Strong practical knowledge of API-first design, RESTful microservices and cloud-native environments. ● Quality and automation: Hands-on experience integrating front-end code into CI/CD pipelines (e.g. Jenkins, GitHub Actions) and writing automated tests (e.g. Jest, Cypress, Playwright). ● Agile mindset: A strong track record in blended, multidisciplinary agile environments, adapting smoothly to legislative or policy-driven change. Desirable: ● Ruby on Rails experience, to help migrate, maintain or integrate with legacy front-end estates. ● Experience integrating with cross-government platforms such as GOV.UK One Login, GOV.UK Pay, GOV.UK Notify or digital wallets. ● Experience supporting large-scale transformation away from legacy systems (e.g. older Java, AIX, Oracle or mainframe). ● Familiarity with AWS serverless patterns, infrastructure as code and proactive observability monitoring.
