Senior Software Engineer

Senior C# Software Engineer – Cloud & Microservices Remote | Central London office (few trips a year) We’re working with a growing technology business looking to hire an experienced Senior C# Software Engineer to join its software engineering team. This is a hands-on development role for someone with strong commercial software engineering experience in C#/.NET, with experience building cloud-native, microservices-based applications. The engineering team operates in an AI-native environment, with AI-assisted and agentic development tools embedded into the software development lifecycle. Strong practical experience using AI-assisted development tools in a commercial software engineering environment is essential. You’ll be designing and developing complex production software, contributing to key architecture and technical design decisions, and helping shape how the platform evolves as the business continues to grow. The role You’ll be responsible for: Designing and developing complex, production-grade applications using C# and .NETBuilding and evolving cloud-based microservices and distributed systemsDesigning scalable, resilient and maintainable services and APIsWorking with Azure, Docker and KubernetesDesigning modular, reusable components using SOLID and modern engineering principlesWorking with messaging technologies and distributed application architecturesTaking ownership of performance, scalability, reliability and maintainabilityRefactoring and modernising existing applications and servicesDeveloping secure, robust software capable of handling demanding production workloadsWriting automated tests and following TDD/BDD principlesConducting code reviews and helping maintain high engineering standardsWorking with CI/CD pipelines and modern DevOps practicesUsing AI-assisted and agentic development tools as an integral part of day-to-day software engineeringHelping shape how AI development tools are adopted effectively while maintaining engineering quality The role is explicitly hands-on rather than a line-management position, although there is scope to take greater technical/team leadership responsibility over time. What we're looking for: You’ll need to be a strong software developer first and foremost, with significant experience building complex commercial applications. Ideally you'll have: Expert-level C# and .NETStrong commercial experience building cloud-based microservicesExperience designing and working with distributed systemsStrong Azure experienceCommercial experience with Kubernetes and DockerStrong practical experience using AI-assisted development tools in a commercial engineering environmentExperience using AI to support areas such as coding, debugging, refactoring, code review, testing and development productivityAn understanding of how to use AI/agentic development tools responsibly without compromising code qualityExperience with messaging technologies within distributed architecturesStrong REST API/service development experienceExperience with asynchronous programming, concurrency and multi-threadingA strong understanding of software architecture and designExperience contributing to architecture discussions and technical directionExperience designing scalable and resilient production systemsStrong understanding of SOLID principles and maintainable software designAutomated testing experience using xUnit, NUnit or MSTestCI/CD and ideally Azure DevOps Why consider it?
