Senior Electrical Engineer – Data Center Electrical Systems
Location: Virginia [hybrid]
The role in brief
Apex Infrastructure Consultants is hiring a Senior Electrical Engineer to own the technical review of electrical systems for hyperscale data centers, covering the full power path from utility service through MV distribution, generation, UPS, and critical power distribution.
You'll work across a global portfolio of mission-critical projects, from design through construction, commissioning, and operations, with real authority over design decisions.
What you'll do
Lead electrical design reviews for data center power architecture: MV and LV distribution, switchgear and switchboards, transformers, generators, UPS, ATS/STS, busway, PDUs/RPPs, and monitoring/controls (EPMS/SCADA).Review and challenge single-line diagrams, short-circuit, load flow, arc flash, and protection coordination studies, specs, and sequences of operation.
Give direction to external design firms.Support utility and substation coordination where projects require it, including interconnections and service up to 345kV.Solve problems in the field with construction and commissioning teams: RFIs, design changes, factory and site test issues, and Level 1–5 commissioning findings.Improve live campuses through incident and root-cause analysis, reliability, resiliency, and maintainability recommendations, and equipment trend data.Drive value engineering that cuts cost or schedule without giving up redundancy.Document decisions clearly in technical memos, calculations, and stakeholder presentations. What you bring (required)
