# Software Engineer – Cashless Payments ## About the Role Worldline is a global payments technology company helping businesses accelerate growth through secure, reliable, and innovative payment solutions. In the development office in **Biel/Bienne, Switzerland**, you will join the Frontoffice department and contribute to software solutions supporting cashless transactions across Switzerland and international markets. You will work as part of an agile, DevOps-oriented, cross-functional squad distributed across Switzerland and Italy. The team develops and operates applications that form part of the backbone of payment services and process **more than 20 million transactions every day**. This role offers the opportunity to work with modern technologies while contributing directly to the reliability, scalability, and evolution of payment processing systems. ## Key Responsibilities * Design, build, test, and maintain new features for cashless payment applications using modern technologies. * Develop reliable, robust, and scalable software solutions for payment processing. * Collaborate with Product Owners and Business Engineers to translate customer and business needs into effective technical solutions. * Write clean, well-documented, maintainable, and testable code. * Participate in code reviews and contribute to software quality and engineering standards. * Take ownership of deployment, monitoring, and incident response for assigned components. * Provide third-level support and participate in on-call duties. * Improve application performance, scalability, reliability, and monitoring. * Contribute to the optimization of deployment infrastructure. * Participate in defining and evolving the future technology roadmap. * Work effectively within an agile, cross-functional, and distributed engineering team. * Support operational excellence across applications processing high volumes of payment transactions. ## Required Qualifications * Higher education in **Information Technology**, such as a university degree or equivalent. * Strong programming proficiency in **Jakarta EE**. * Strong understanding and experience with **relational databases**. * Experience with: * Git * Maven * Quarkus * Docker * Kafka * Linux * Ability to work collaboratively as part of a cross-functional engineering team. * Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to break down complex technical problems and drive solutions. * Proven ability to work effectively under pressure, including during major outages. * Fluent English. ## Preferred Qualifications * French, German, or Italian language skills. * Experience with payment processing or cashless payment technologies. * Experience working in agile and DevOps environments. * Experience with distributed systems and high-volume transaction processing. ## Technology & Engineering Environment * **Backend:** Jakarta EE, Quarkus * **Databases:** Relational databases * **Messaging:** Kafka * **DevOps & Infrastructure:** Docker, Linux, Maven, Git * **Operations:** Deployment, monitoring, incident response, third-level support * **Development Model:** Agile, DevOps, cross-functional squads ## Work Arrangement & Benefits * Mobile working within Switzerland. * Flexible working time models. * Up to **25 days per year of international remote working**. * Financial support for public transport tickets. * Access to the company's staff restaurant. * Comprehensive continuing education and training programs. * Additional offers and support for families. * Potential participation in the **Innovation Festival @ Worldline**. * Employee Share Program providing employees with a financial stake in the company's long-term success. * Sustainable and international corporate culture. * Equal Opportunity employer.
