The Opportunity The Malwin Company is seeking Electrical, Mechanical, Electromechanical, and Mechatronics Engineering students for a hands-on Fall 2026 co-op and internship opportunity in Paterson, New Jersey. This is not a single-project internship. You will work across multiple active engineering efforts, moving between design, lab, testing, and production as programs require, much like our full-time engineers. Depending on your background and interests, your work may include: Embedded and electrical systems: microcontroller firmware, motor controls, power electronics, mixed-signal interfaces, signal conditioning, and data acquisition.Reverse engineering: teardown, measurement, characterization, and documentation of legacy avionics and electromechanical systems.Mechanical and electromechanical design: CAD modeling, drawings, tolerance analysis, precision mechanisms, motors, synchros, gear trains, and assemblies.Test engineering: designing and building test stands, fixtures, bench setups, and procedures for acceptance and qualification testing.Production and quality engineering: troubleshooting, dimensional inspection, root-cause analysis, and hands-on support of manufacturing and assembly activities. What You May Do Support schematic capture, PCB development, CAD modeling, drawings, and BOM creation.Assemble, bring up, test, and troubleshoot electrical and electromechanical systems.Write and test embedded code supporting instrument digitization and motor-control applications.Assist with teardown and documentation of legacy equipment for reverse-engineering efforts.Design or improve tooling, fixtures, test stands, and measurement setups.Run bench tests, collect data, analyze results, and document findings.Perform dimensional inspections using calipers, micrometers, gauges, and related equipment.Support troubleshooting at the board, wiring, component, assembly, and full-system levels.Work alongside electrical, mechanical, quality, production, and senior engineering personnel.Prepare engineering documentation within an AS9100D quality-management environment. What We’re Looking For Junior or Senior standing in a four-year engineering program, enrollment in a relevant Master’s program, or equivalent practical experience.Degree focus in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.Strong engineering fundamentals and genuine interest in hands-on technical work.Experience building, testing, programming, measuring, or troubleshooting engineering systems through coursework, clubs, internships, or personal projects.Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, or engineering documentation relevant to your discipline.Familiarity with common engineering tools, whether electronics lab equipment, CAD software, programming environments, or precision measurement tools.Strong problem-solving, technical writing, and data-analysis skills.Curiosity, initiative, and an eagerness to both learn and contribute.Availability to work on-site in Paterson, New Jersey during the Fall 2026 academic term for either 40 hours per week or a minimum of 20 hours per week. Especially Helpful Experience Depending on your engineering focus, experience in any of the following is a plus: Embedded systems, C/C++, microcontrollers, power electronics, motor controls, or control systems.Analog electronics, op-amps, filters, synchros/resolvers, sensors, or signal conditioning.SolidWorks, AutoCAD, KiCad, Altium, LTspice, or similar engineering tools.GD&T, tolerance analysis, mechanical design, machining, or precision assemblies.Robotics, Formula SAE, rocketry, engineering clubs, maker projects, or other hands-on technical activities.Designing or building test equipment, fixtures, or complete engineering systems.
