Description

Build the systems that let AI agents do real work. Patrol6 is hiring a Founding Engineer, Applied AI & Agent Systems. This is our first engineering hire: a hands-on role for a curious builder with strong software engineering fundamentals, product judgment, and a passion for figuring out what AI can make possible. We build AI-powered body cameras and software for frontline teams. We have landed some of the largest property management companies in the US, are participating in Techstars Boulder, and are entering our next stage of growth. You will work directly with the founders and help shape our product, architecture, and how the company operates. The role You will build the systems and operating environments that allow AI agents to develop our product, support operations, and contribute to marketing and growth. You will own the engineering quality, product decisions, and controls that make those systems useful and reliable. For example, a customer call surfaces a recurring problem. That feedback connects with meeting notes, Slack conversations, and product context. Agents help turn it into a clear requirement, build and test a solution, and prepare it for review and release. We measure whether it solved the customer's problem and feed what we learn back into the next iteration. You will make that entire loop work. What you will own • Connect customer conversations, internal knowledge, and product signals so agents have the right context to act intelligently. • Build environments where agents can plan, write code, test, and deliver changes within clear boundaries and meaningful acceptance criteria. • Design and maintain the APIs, data models, integrations, permissions, and infrastructure that hold these systems together. • Create evaluations, monitoring, and recovery paths that help us detect failures, intervene, and improve. • Review and debug agent-generated work, take responsibility for production quality, and decide where human judgment is required. • Apply the same approach to marketing and business operations, with clear ownership and measurable outcomes. What we are looking for • Curiosity, a willingness to learn and grow, and real passion for building useful things. You experiment, seek feedback, learn from mistakes, and keep improving. These qualities matter more to us than a particular credential or a conventional AI background. • Strong software engineering fundamentals and the ability to build, inspect, debug, and own systems across applications, APIs, databases, and infrastructure. • Strong applied AI ability: give agents useful context and tools, evaluate their work, recognize their limitations, and learn new approaches quickly. A background in machine learning research, model training, or model internals is not required. • Product instincts: understand the customer's problem, question assumptions, and turn ambiguous requirements into useful software. • End-to-end ownership, clear communication, and the ability to make sound decisions in a small team. • The confidence to push back. When an agent takes a bad approach or a business request creates a brittle system or poor customer experience, we expect you to challenge it, including with the founders. Bring evidence, propose a better path, and stay open to changing your mind. Why join now We have major customer relationships to build on and a large amount of work ahead. At this stage, one exceptional engineer can have an outsized impact on the product and the business. You will have direct access to the founders, meaningful ownership, and the opportunity to help establish how we build. Techstars reviews thousands of applications and has backed companies that became unicorns. Participating in the accelerator puts us inside a network of experienced mentors, operators, founders, and investors. Joining now means helping shape Patrol6 while we build those relationships and pursue our next stage of growth. Location and engagement • Full-time. • Boulder, Colorado is strongly preferred. We are open to an exceptional candidate elsewhere who can spend time in Boulder during the accelerator. • Compensation: $120,000–$220,000 annual base salary, plus equity, depending on experience and scope. • Benefits: TBD. • Application closing date: TBD. How to apply Apply through LinkedIn and include a product, working agent system, demo, portfolio, or GitHub repository. Tell us what you personally owned, what you had to learn, what AI got wrong, and how you made it work. We want to understand how you build, how you think, and what you are excited to learn next.
