Privacy and user consent are central design considerations.

Highlights

Founding-level opportunity with significant ownership over turning an early prototype into a real product. You will work across mobile, computer vision, and spatial technologies, participate in product strategy and fundraising, and help shape the technical direction of an early-stage venture.

Description

Company Description Captchr is an early-stage startup based in San Francisco. Two trillion photos are taken every year, and 94% of them on smartphones. Instagram and Snapchat focus on sharing and spreading that content. We focus on a different problem: Captchr is building a platform that helps people discover photos and videos of themselves that others have captured . The company is focused on closing the gap between the vast amount of recorded footage and the people who appear in it, ensuring that consent and privacy remain core principles. Captchr aims to create a seamless experience where individuals can be seen and find meaningful media from their lives more easily. Where we are We have a working demo prototype. The next step is to develop it into a real product, then take it to investors to raise our first round. As a co-founder, you would help build that version and join the fundraising conversations. Role Description You will: Build and iterate on Captchr's mobile application and core product experience.Develop and evaluate computer-vision approaches for understanding captured images and video.Explore spatial, location, proximity, and device-sensor technologies relevant to the product.Design the backend systems and APIs connecting mobile clients, media, and users.Prototype different technical approaches and test them in real-world environments.Optimize for accuracy, latency, scalability, battery consumption, privacy, and security.Help define Captchr's technical architecture and technology stack.Work closely on product decisions involving consent, privacy, safety, and user experience.Help build the engineering team and culture as the company grows.Participate in technical discussions with future investors, partners, and hires. Qualifications We're not expecting one person to be an expert in every technology below. We're looking for a strong builder with deep experience in some of these areas and the ability to learn and experiment across the others. Strong mobile engineering experience with iOS and/or Android, ideally involving cameras, media, sensors, or real-time experiences.Experience with computer vision / machine learning, such as image and video processing, detection, tracking, matching, or visual understanding.Familiarity with frameworks such as OpenCV, PyTorch, TensorFlow, or equivalent technologies.Experience or strong interest in geolocation, proximity, device orientation, sensor fusion, AR/spatial computing, mapping, or related systems.Ability to design and build backend services, APIs, databases, and cloud infrastructure.Strong understanding of performance, security, privacy, and scalable system design.Product-minded engineering approach—you think about the person using the technology, not only the technology itself.Comfortable working in an early-stage environment where the answer isn't already known.Strong communication skills and willingness to challenge assumptions, prototype alternatives, and help shape the company.Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field or equivalent practical experience You Might Be Especially Excited About Captchr If...You like photography. You like building mobile products that interact with the real world, not just another screen. You find computer vision, cameras, spatial computing, and emerging mobile technologies interesting. And when somebody presents you with a difficult technical problem, your first reaction is: “Let's figure out how to make it work.” The OpportunityCaptchr is pre-launch and early-stage. This is a co-founder opportunity with meaningful equity, initially equity-based rather than a conventional salaried engineering position. We're looking for someone who wants to help take Captchr from prototype → product → users → fundraising → company. San Francisco / Bay Area preferred.
