Position Summary
Horace Engineering Ltd is seeking an experienced Senior Structural Engineer, P.Eng.
to join our Surrey-based team and take a key role in the design and delivery of residential, multi-family, agricultural, and light commercial projects throughout British Columbia.
This is a hands-on senior engineering role for someone who combines strong technical judgment with the ability to keep multiple projects moving.
You'll perform structural analysis and design, review and seal engineering documents, conduct site reviews, provide technical guidance to junior team members, and work directly with clients and contractors to resolve design and construction challenges.
We're looking for an engineer who is thorough without losing momentum, comfortable making sound technical decisions, and collaborative in how they work with others.
You'll have the autonomy expected of a senior professional while being part of a close-knit team that values accuracy, responsiveness, practical problem-solving, and high-quality work.
Responsibilities
You'll work across our full range of structural building projects (residential, multi-family, farm, and small commercial) taking on structural analysis and design, overseeing drawing production and detailing, and completing site reviews.
In this role, you will:
Perform structural analysis and design for residential, light commercial, and agricultural projectsDesign structures in compliance with the BC Building Code (BCBC)Prepare structural reports, calculations, drawings, memos, technical documents, and project quality plansReview, seal, and issue engineering documents for new projectsProvide peer reviews of other engineers' work for accuracy and adherence to engineering standardsComplete site visits and construction reviews to assess compliance with design; attend occasional site meetingsPlot plansLead and participate in client meetingsCollaborate with clients, contractors, and staffReview and respond to emailsTrack job hours and input data into Excel spreadsheetsPrioritize projects in relation to job deadlines
Required Qualifications
Minimum 5+ years of structural engineering experienceP.Eng.
in good standing with a valid BC seal (required)Proficient knowledge of the BCBCProficient with AutoCAD (required)Seismic design experienceWood, concrete and steel design experience in residential, multi-family, and small commercial buildingsDemonstrated ability to prioritize and manage multiple concurrent projects while maintaining accuracy and meeting deadlinesStrong communication and listening skillsCollaborative approach, positive attitude, and strong work ethicEnjoys problem-solving and values strong client relationshipsOwn transportation for site visits (with valid BC drivers licence)Currently resides in the Lower Mainland

Compensation, Benefits & Schedule
Pay range: 95-115K
Fixed Hybrid Work Schedule: Work from home 1 day a week (after probationary period)
Flexible Hours: Flexible start time most days (except Wednesdays)
