Permanent £50,000 - £70,000 p/a Colchester, Essex On-site Senior Mechanical Engineer | Colchester area | £50,000-£70,000 + benefits An established manufacturing business in the Colchester area is looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join a multi-disciplinary engineering team developing new automated manufacturing processes. This is a hands-on role focused on designing and developing small, complex precision machinery, from initial concept and prototyping through to testing and implementation. You'll work with technologies including servos, stepper motors, robotics, camera inspection and automated handling systems. The Role Lead the mechanical design and development of automated machinery and manufacturing processesDesign component handling systems and tooling using SolidWorksDevelop prototypes and trial new processes and technologiesWork alongside electrical, software and manufacturing engineers to integrate automation into productionIdentify opportunities to improve throughput, quality and production flexibilityTest and validate new machinery and processesDevelop solutions across processes including welding, soldering, potting, miniature assembly, testing and inspectionMaintain engineering drawings, models and documentation within an ISO 9001 environmentEnsure designs meet appropriate safety and engineering standards About You You'll have experience in mechanical design, manufacturing engineering, process engineering or automation, ideally within a precision manufacturing environment. You'll Ideally Have Strong 3D CAD experience, preferably SolidWorksExperience designing machinery, tooling or automated equipmentExperience working with small, miniature or delicate componentsGood knowledge of engineering practices, manufacturing processes and toolingExperience developing prototypes or new manufacturing processesAn understanding of machine safety and safety-by-designExperience working within an ISO 9001 environmentStrong problem-solving skills and a practical approach Experience with miniature electronic components, precision assembly or automated handling systems would be particularly advantageous.
