Job Description: Senior Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE) – AI & Data Systems
Location: Remote (US-based; Eastern or Central hours preferred; Pacific considered)
Office Presence: Quarterly team offsite in New York, NY

What You’ll Be Doing
Own full technical delivery for wellness clients—building demos, gathering requirements, running design sessions, implementing, and testing production systems end-to-end.Architect and build AI agents and insight products by leveraging Vi’s platform tools (feature store, knowledge base, MCP, agentic context packages).Integrate with client data systems including CRMs and wellness applications, handling data ingestion, ETL/ELT pipelines, and heterogeneous data sources.Collaborate directly with clients’ data and technical teams on Zoom calls, translating their workflows into production AI-orchestrated solutions.Feed field learnings back into Vi’s core platform (~10–20% of time), influencing product direction through real-world client patterns.Participate in on-call responsibilities as part of a production-facing engineering role.
Key Requirements
Experience & Background
5–15 years of professional software engineering experience.Proven experience owning full technical delivery for clients, including pre-sales, scoping, and post-sale integration.Track record of building and deploying customer-facing software systems end-to-end (production engineering, solutions engineering, solutions architecture, or technical consulting).Experience as a founding engineer, startup co-founder, startup CTO, or software engineer at a high-growth startup is highly preferred.Technical Skills
Strong ability to design end-to-end system architectures and produce complete architecture diagrams.Experience building data and machine learning pipelines (PySpark, ETL/ELT, unstructured data, document ingestion, predictive models).Fluency in modern programming languages: JavaScript/Node.js, TypeScript, Python, Next.js, React.Working knowledge of cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP), databases (PostgreSQL, Redis), real-time systems (WebSockets), and CI/CD.Experience building LLM systems or AI agents (prompt engineering, function calling, structured output, guardrails, observability) is a strong plus.Soft Skills
