About The Role We are seeking a highly skilled Staff Software Engineer, Frontend, to join our Advanced Trading team within the Consumer & Business group. In this role, you will lead the development and execution of the front-end technical strategy for Coinbase Advanced, our premium trading platform designed for experienced traders. Your primary responsibilities will include owning the performance, reliability, and scalability of our web and mobile trading clients. You will drive the creation of low-latency, high-performance interfaces that support multiple instrument types, ensuring an optimal trading experience. This position offers a unique opportunity to influence both the platform’s architecture and the engineering team responsible for its development. As a key technical leader, you will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, set engineering standards, and mentor senior engineers to foster a culture of excellence and innovation. Qualifications 8+ years of professional software engineering experience with a strong background in modern front-end frameworks such as React, React Native, or equivalent technologies.Extensive experience optimizing complex UI systems for high performance, including rendering, network efficiency, and state management at scale.Proven track record leading technical strategy and architecture decisions for a product area, including trade-off analysis and cross-team alignment.Experience mentoring senior engineers and elevating engineering standards through technical guidance and best practices.Familiarity with high-availability, low-latency systems, particularly in trading platforms, financial systems, or real-time data applications.Strong understanding of mobile development environments and cross-platform deployment strategies.Ability to utilize generative AI responsibly, maintaining oversight to improve workflows, reduce costs, and enhance quality. Responsibilities Own and define the front-end technical roadmap for Coinbase Advanced, establishing architecture decisions that ensure a reliable and scalable trading platform across web and mobile platforms.Drive measurable performance improvements by optimizing rendering processes, network utilization, and state management to deliver a low-latency trading experience.Lead complex, multi-quarter technical initiatives from conception to deployment, setting high standards for code quality, system design, and engineering rigor.Mentor and develop senior engineers, fostering technical growth, decision-making capabilities, and adherence to best practices within the team.Collaborate with Product and Engineering leadership to translate business priorities into technical plans and deliver high-impact features on schedule.Shape front-end engineering practices and establish scalable patterns and conventions that enhance development velocity and maintainability as the team grows.
