Database Engineer

We've built ML-based inventory systems for warehousing and logistics operators. We've also facilitated the set up of 36 businesses and delivered web and data aggregation for 72 active clients. Our main project right now is an AI financial advisor for SMEs, which we're building in-house. The role You'll design and build the data foundation behind the AI financial advisor. That means taking in licensed and public business data, structuring it, and making it reliable enough for our models to train on and query. You'll be one of the first dedicated data hires in a small engineering team, working directly with our lead software engineer. What you’ll do Design and build the core database schema for financial and business performance dataBuild pipelines that bring in, clean and validate data from licensed providers and public sourcesMake data available to our ML models for both training and live queriesSet up access controls, encryption and audit logging for sensitive financial dataKeep queries fast and costs under control as the data growsDocument everything so the team can build on it What we’re looking for 3+ years building production databases or data pipelinesStrong SQL and PostgreSQL (or similar)Python for ETL and data processingExperience with a cloud platform (AWS, GCP or Azure)Data modelling skills: you know when to normalise and when not toExperience handling sensitive or regulated data securely Nice to have Financial, accounting or business data experienceAirflow, dbt or similar orchestration toolsExperience supporting ML teams (feature stores, training datasets)Early-stage startup experienceWhy join Build the data layer of a new product from scratch, not maintain someone else'sTravel to the UK and other client locations fully covered.Small team, direct access to the founder and a direct path to real ownership
