Defence Sustainment Engineer (Reliability & Supportability)
Location: Melbourne, Australia
Work Arrangement: Hybrid (Tuesday-Thursday in office)
Salary: AUD $115,000-$135,000 plus 10% annual bonus opportunity

World Fuel Government Solutions is seeking a Defence Sustainment Engineer (Reliability & Supportability) to support the maintenance, reliability, supportability, and lifecycle management of complex Defence equipment and systems.
This role is ideal for an engineer who is naturally curious about how equipment is designed, maintained, repaired, and sustained throughout its operational lifecycle.
Unlike larger Defence organizations where engineers are often limited to a single specialty, this role offers exposure across sustainment engineering, supportability engineering, reliability engineering, maintenance planning, asset management, lifecycle support, technical publications, and Defence support programs.
You will work closely with experienced engineers, Defence customers, suppliers, and project teams while building the skills required to become a future sustainment and supportability specialist.
This Is Not a Software or IT Systems Engineering Role
We are seeking engineers who understand physical products, equipment, and asset lifecycles.

What You'll Be Doing
Support Defence Sustainment Activities
Support sustainment and lifecycle engineering activities across Defence programs.Contribute to Integrated Product Support (IPS) and supportability deliverables.Assist with maintenance planning and lifecycle support activities.Support asset management and sustainment strategies for Defence equipment.
Support Reliability & Maintenance Planning
Assist with Reliability, Availability & Maintainability (RAM) activities.Support Maintenance Task Analysis (MTA) and maintenance planning activities.Contribute to parts provisioning and supportability assessments.Assist with maintenance optimization initiatives across product lifecycles.
Improve Equipment Reliability & Performance
Support investigations into equipment failures and degradation issues.Participate in root cause analysis and corrective action development.Contribute to reliability improvement initiatives.Support maintainability and lifecycle performance assessments.
Develop Technical Documentation
Develop and maintain engineering documentation and sustainment records.Assist with technical publications, maintenance instructions, and user manuals.Support configuration-controlled engineering documentation.Maintain accurate engineering, supportability, and maintenance records.
Support Defence Engineering Programs
Collaborate with engineers, project teams, suppliers, and Defence stakeholders.Support configuration management and engineering change activities.Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, reliability, and operational readiness.
What We're Looking For
Required Qualifications
Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline.Australian Citizen able to obtain and maintain a Defence Security Clearance.3-7 years of relevant engineering experience.Strong mechanical aptitude and analytical capability.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
