Workforce Development Program Manager: Accelerator for America seeks an entrepreneurial, solutions-oriented professional for the position of Workforce Development Program Manager.
This is a full time position with a starting salary of $80,000-100,000, depending on direct, relevant experience.
Qualified candidates will have at least three (3) years of direct experience in the workforce development field, which may include experience with the skilled trades, organized labor unions, workforce training organizations, local/state government, and/or community-based organizations.
About AFA: Accelerator for America is a national nonprofit, nonpartisan “Do Tank” that delivers solutions, resources, and connections to mayors and local leaders working to create greater economic opportunity in their communities.
We provide capacity building, technical assistance, and advocacy across three intersecting pillars: economic and community development, infrastructure and workforce development, and housing.
About the Position: The Workforce Development Program Manager will play a critical role in developing and delivering AFA’s workforce development initiatives, including:
A skilled trades-oriented initiative in Kansas City, MO;A national initiative scaling a successful, employer-led workforce intermediary model from Philadelphia, PA to new communities; and A national initiative highlighting proven practices to advance local skilled trades ecosystems through peer-learning and placed-based technical assistance.
Reporting to the Director of Workforce Development (Director), the Program Manager will support project management priorities, research, scheduling, and internal and external communications.
This role suits someone with experience in workforce development initiatives who thrives in a highly collaborative, execution-oriented environment; coordinating with internal teams and external partners, scheduling meetings, tracking project deliverables and impact, conducting web-based research, and planning and conducting virtual interviews.
This role will also work closely with AFA leadership and Development Advisor to identify funding opportunities and prepare proposals to advance future AFA’s workforce development initiatives.
Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
Support the development and execution of workforce development initiatives connecting workers to good jobs in growing local sectorsWork closely with the Director, and collaborate regularly with other AFA staff on program design and execution, including development of workplans, reports, and other deliverablesSupport documentation and refinement of tools and processes that enable consistent, effective replication of AFA’s workforce engagements in new cities Coordinate with the Director to schedule regular check-ins, meetings, and technical assistance activities with participating cities and partner organizationsEnsure smooth communication and follow-through with cities and partner organizationsSupport the Director in preparing for and delivering peer learning opportunities, including webinars and shared learning sessions Work with the Director to monitor progress toward program-wide goals and milestonesCapture success stories, challenges, feedback, and insights to inform continuous improvement and external communicationsOrganize and manage network partner contacts and communications through the organization’s Customer Relationship Management systemOther duties as assigned.
Candidate Requirements
Three (3) years of direct experience in the workforce development field, which may include experience with the skilled trades, organized labor unions, workforce training organizations, local/state government, and/or community-based organizations.Strong attention to detail and ability to execute against a work plan, while remaining adaptable to changing circumstancesVery strong written and oral communication skills, including demonstrated ability to understand, communicate with, and authentically engage people across a wide range of different geographies, backgrounds and lived experiencesExceptional coordination and organizational skills, with strong attention to detail and the ability to track multiple projects, deadlines, and deliverables accurately.Preferred qualifications and characteristics:
Resides in or has the ability to travel with frequency to the Kansas City, MO and/or Philadelphia, PA regions Experience with and knowledge of organized labor union structure, dynamics, and processesBachelor’s degree preferred.
