Position Summary
The Senior Java Software Engineer designs and builds the backend for a large B2B commerce replatform for an enterprise client: custom microservices, new commerce features, and the integrations that connect them.
This is an on-site role in our headquarters in Boca Raton, FL and candidate must be able to work from the office.
The client is moving from SAP Commerce (Hybris) to a composable stack on commercetools and Google Cloud.
Working inside our Build practice, you will partner with the backend team lead, a frontend team building Next.js storefronts, our solutions architect, and the client's own SAP and integration teams.
You will own services from the first design decision to production, and you will be accountable for how they perform once they are there.
This role is not a platform configuration or maintenance position.
It is hands-on backend engineering for business logic that no platform covers out of the box, on a program with a fixed timeline and an enterprise client that reviews every release.
Key Responsibilities
Service Design and Build
Design and build custom Java microservices for the business logic no platform covers out of the box, owning each one from service boundaries and data model to deployment on Google Cloud Run.Deliver new commerce features end to end with the frontend team, from the API contract the storefront calls to the service behind it, including B2B order approvals, account permissions, and assisted ordering by client employees.commercetools Extensions
Extend commercetools with API Extensions and Subscriptions in Java, including the cart enforcement gates for contract pricing and catalog entitlements.Model B2B account structures with business units and custom objects.Integrations
Build integration services for product data from Salsify, live contract pricing and order handoff with an order management platform, tax calculation with Vertex, and invoice and payment flows through the client's SAP PI/PO REST interfaces.Engineering Discipline and Delivery
Write JUnit tests, keep GitLab CI pipelines green across four environments (DEV, QA, PRE, PROD), and instrument services with Dynatrace and Google Cloud Logging.Take tickets from build through QA and client review to a reviewed pull request, and help teammates through code review.
Qualifications
Senior-level experience building production backend systems in Java, with strong command of Spring Boot and RESTful API design.Experience designing microservices from scratch: drawing service boundaries, deciding which service owns which data, and choosing between synchronous APIs and event-driven messaging.Hands-on experience with commercetools or another headless or composable commerce platform; exposure to SAP Commerce (Hybris) is a strong plus.Deep experience building enterprise integrations, including ERP, order management, tax, and product information systems, with sound patterns for retries, idempotency, and graceful degradation.Working knowledge of B2B commerce concepts such as contract pricing, account hierarchies, catalog entitlements, and order approval workflows.Experience deploying and operating containerized services on a public cloud, ideally Google Cloud (Cloud Run, Pub/Sub, Cloud Logging).A disciplined testing and CI/CD practice, including JUnit, automated pipelines, and multi-environment release processes.Experience instrumenting and troubleshooting services in production with observability tools such as Dynatrace.Strong communication skills and comfort working directly with client technical teams, in consulting or agency settings.A collaborative approach to code review, and a commitment to raising the quality of the team's work as well as your own.
