Description

Objective of the role Raidiam’s server-side team builds and runs the back-end services for Raidiam Connect, the ecosystem trust control system that digital identity ecosystems around the world rely on. As a Junior Software Engineer you will work in the server-side team, primarily on our Java and Go services, as well as on infrastructure definition in terraform, and API definitions in OpenAPI, taking features and fixes from ticket to production with more experienced engineers around you to support you. The work is highly collaborative, the APIs we build are the contract other teams inside and outside of the company depend upon, so you will be in regular contact with product managers, UI developers and customer-facing colleagues, and with the people who operate the live environments. LLM-based coding assistants are a standard part of the team’s toolkit and will be part of yours. Key responsibilities: Push new features and bug fixes into the Directory’s server-side codebases in Java and Go, taking each piece of work through refinement, implementation, automated testing and code review, and supporting release to production.Actively learn and adopt the technology and tools defined by the team, building genuine working fluency in both primary languages.Use LLM-based coding assistants as a routine part of how you work and take full responsibility for everything you submit: understand it, test it, and be able to explain and defend it in review.Write and maintain the automated tests, database migrations and API specification changes that go with your work, so that a change is finished when it is safely in production rather than when it compiles.Learn quickly from the engineers around you and consistently step up when it is required, and as you find your feet, proactively support other team members and help them to be successful.Contribute to code reviews as a junior engineer, to both help your learning process and because extra attention on our deliveries is always good.Help keep the products you contribute to healthy: investigate defects raised against them, help diagnose problems in deployed environments, and escalate clearly and early when an issue is beyond your scope.Take an active part in planning and estimation, and communicate progress, risks and blockers clearly. Essential Skills And Qualifications Experience writing server-side code in at least one of Go or Java in a professional, academic, open-source or substantial personal-project setting, together with the demonstrated appetite and aptitude to become productive in the other.A working understanding of relational databases and SQL: able to read a schema, write basic queries and reason about a data model.Comfortable with HTTP and REST APIsWrites automated tests as a normal part of completing a piece of work, not as an afterthought.Everyday fluency with version control (Git), and familiarity with code review and continuous integration.Practical experience using LLM-based coding assistants, with the judgement to verify what they produce, the willingness to reject it when it is wrong, and the openness to be clear about what was generated.Able to take a well-defined piece of work and see it through to production, asking for direction when it is needed, and communicating clearly with the wider team while work is in progressA supportive and collaborative approach to working in a team: learns quickly from others, asks for help early, offers it readily, and both gives and receives code review well.Clear written and spoken English, much of our work is documented, reviewed asynchronously and shared with external ecosystem participants and regulators. As we are a globally distributed company with fully remote working practices, communication is key. Desirable Exposure to AWS or similar cloud service.Experience with Micronaut, Spring Boot or a comparable JVM framework.Experience with infrastructure as code, particularly Terraform.Familiarity with OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, JSON Web Tokens, mutual TLS or X.509 / PKI concepts.Experience with testing tools in the Java and Go ecosystems What you can expect from us? Salary: $75k -$90k per/year ( Depending on experience)Remote workingAn opportunity to work alongside and learn from highly experienced industry professionalsA vibrant, exciting, and fast-paced environment fully supported by modern technologySupport for professional development and further studies for industry-standard qualifications with a dedicated training budget About Raidiam Raidiam is the global organisation at the forefront of data sharing technologies that are changing the world.
