The Software Engineering Manager will lead the engineering team responsible for designing, developing, and supporting Associated Packaging’s current and future applications portfolio, including the company’s NetSuite ERP and SupplyBox ecommerce platform. This role combines hands-on technical leadership with people management, ensuring quality outcomes by delivering robust solutions, while maturing and enhancing the team’s capabilities. Key Duties & Responsibilities: Team Leadership & People Management Lead, mentor, and manage a team of software engineers, including hiring, onboarding, goal setting, performance reviews, and career development. Provide ongoing constructive feedback, promoting culture of continuous improvement. Foster a collaborative, accountable, and people-first team culture consistent with Associated Packaging values. Development Standards & Engineering Practices Set standards for development practices, including coding conventions, code review, branching and release strategy, testing, and documentation. Incorporate generative & agentic AI tools to improve team’s work outcomes. Champion quality through automated testing, continuous integration and deployment (CI/CD), and peer code reviews. Investigate and develop skills across team in emerging technologies. Promote knowledge sharing and ensure problems, resolutions, and process flows are properly documented and maintained in Confluence for future reference. Investigate and promote best practices around software/data backup and security in cloud-based environments and on-prem. Project Delivery & Technical Oversight Provide technical direction and remain hands-on in design, code review, and troubleshooting of complex issues for all software engineering efforts. Specific current areas of focus:SupplyBox: Oversee completion of technology stack upgrade for web platform, which includes upgrades to Ruby-on-Rails, Mongo DB, and other integrated components. SupplyBox: Develop long-term roadmap for continual feature enhancements, ensuring alignment with business priorities and technologies leveraged adhere to Associated Packaging’s security standards. NetSuite ERP: Complete transfer of ownership for all customizations from our implementation consultants (MHI) to Associated Packaging’s internal IT team. This involves growing the team’s knowledge of what has currently been deployed, and building their skills with SuiteScript, SuiteQL, Saved Searches, and workflow configurations. NetSuite ERP: Oversee team’s re-engineering effort for consolidating user event scripts, improving the overall performance and responsiveness of the system. NetSuite ERP: Assist with oversight of 3 rd party consultants (current and future) in solution designs and implementations, verifying their adherence to Associated Packaging’s technical standards. IBM ACE Integration platform: Stabilize current environment, ensuring adequate monitoring and protocols are in place to eliminate deployment inconsistencies. This will include standardizing the team’s development workstations and building more depth across team in supporting the platform. Assist IT Director with AI proof-of-concept pilots, enabling areas outside of IT to gain efficiencies in productivity via automation. Support implementation of approved AI-enabled workflows and use cases. Keep abreast of current IT trends, technologies, software, or solutions that may advance company initiatives. May involve customer support of emerging technologies requiring technical integrations, including AI based solutions. Supports future technology roadmap efforts that may include: automated QA/testing solutions, mobile applications, ecommerce portals, supplier portals, customer portal integrations, warehouse management/RFID, data warehousing architecture and applications, and others as determined over time and by need. Other duties as required in support of Associated Packaging’s IT initiatives. Education and/or Experience: Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field. 7+ years’ software development experience, including 2+ years leading or managing development teams; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Proven track record delivering web-based applications. Demonstrated experience defining and improving development standards, processes, and best practices. Required Skills: Strong technical background in established development tools and technologies, including but not limited to:Ruby on Rails, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, MongoDB, Redis, ElasticsearchProficiency with collaboration tools such as Jira and Confluence, including backlog management, sprint tracking, reporting, and technical documentation. Experience with GitHub source control and CI/CD practices. Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
