The State of Connecticut Judicial Branch is seeking a Test Automation Engineer, Information Technology Analyst III for the Information Technology Division.
Qualified applicants will possess experience in the specific functional area of Software Development.
Position Responsibilities
The selected candidate will play a key role in developing frameworks for automated testing and managing test data to support the organization’s transition to Continuous Testing practices using automated tools.
The position involves collaborating with multiple vendors, IT leadership, and business units to ensure that automation priorities align with broader IT strategies.
The chosen candidate will also promote the adoption of automated testing solutions and related tools across the value stream, help define quality engineering standards and best practices, provide technical guidance to enhance testing efficiency, mentor scrum QA teams on established practices, and report on key performance indicators.
Working closely with Scrum Masters, Software Engineers, and other Quality Leads, the selected candidate will aim to increase test coverage, optimize automated test execution times for faster release readiness, support pre- and post-implementation reviews, drive root cause analysis to refine testing processes, and improve essential quality metrics.
Responsibilities Include
Quality Engineering Strategy Implementation: Lead the adoption, refinement, and oversight of quality engineering approaches, standards, and operational models.
Embrace modern technologies to ensure delivery that is consistent, scalable, and of high quality.Test Automation Architecture and Frameworks: Develop, deploy, and sustain resilient automated testing frameworks across various applications, enabling dependable and repeatable validation of complex systems.Practical Test Automation and Troubleshooting: Advance automation efforts by actively creating automated test scripts, managing test data, reviewing automation outputs from teams, and resolving intricate automation issues in line with software engineering best practices and expected quality benchmarks.Quality Metrics and Results: Demonstrated ability to monitor and utilize quality metrics to drive tangible improvements, such as reducing defects and preventing defect leakage.Agile and Scaled Delivery: Proven experience in testing and quality assurance within Agile and Scaled Agile environments, including sprint-based testing, comprehensive validation, regression, performance, security, and accessibility testing for customer-facing digital solutions.Defect Analysis and System Diagnostics: Identify and resolve complex defects in distributed systems and third-party integrations.System Testability and Reliability Engineering: Enhance system testability, observability, and reliability through direct code contributions and collaborative design efforts.End-to-End Quality Management: Oversee and coordinate quality assurance processes from concept to production, ensuring business capabilities are delivered with excellence.Mentorship and Engineering Excellence: Guide quality engineers in best practices, automation techniques, and scalable test design strategies.DevOps and Release Support: Skilled in DevOps tools and able to participate in planning and executing production releases.Innovation in Testing: Champion the adoption and effective use of advanced automated tools to boost testing efficiency, effectiveness, and overall engineering productivity.
This position is ideal for individuals interested in automation testing, dashboarding, and who want practical experience in quality assurance and process improvement within a government environment.
Candidates will also have the opportunity to work with accessibility standards such as ADA and WCAG, ensuring that digital solutions meet compliance requirements and are accessible to all users.
Preferred Candidates Will Possess
Experience with programing language – C#, JavaScript /Typescript, Python.Experience with Test automation tools like Playwright, Postman/Karate, Selenium, Blazemeter/JMeter, and Redgate Data Generator.Knowledge on Azure DevOps, Git, and YAML-based CI/CD pipelinesExperience with cross browser testing with tools like Browser stack or Selenium Grid.Strong experience in risk-based approach for implementing End to End test strategies.Knowledge of Agile Scrum/SAFE methodology and effectively use collaboration tools like DevOps.Excellent writing and communication skills with the ability to create and edit technical documentation clearly and accurately.Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to follow through on multiple tasks.Attention to detail and a collaborative approach to working with both technical and non-technical staff.The ability to work effectively as part of a team in a professional environment.Additional experience a plus:Experience with reporting tools like Tableau and Power BI.Experience creating test AI agents for Distributed Applications.Experience using GitHub Copilot for AI-assisted coding, and Model Context Protocol (MCP) integrations with Playwright and GitHub for automated testing and repository workflows.Experience with SonarQube for static code analysis and quality gates, and Static Application Security Testing (SAST) and Dynamic Application Security Testing (DAST) practices for identifying security vulnerabilities in code and running applications.

Experience And Training
General Experience: Eight (8) years of experience in information technology (IT), programming, systems/software development or another IT related field with a concentration in the specific area of the position being applied for.
Special Experience: One (1) year of the General Experience must have been at the advanced working level with responsibility for performing a full range of moderately complex technical support functions as highlighted in one of functional area(s) listed above.
Substitutions Allowed
College training in management information systems, computer science, electrical engineering or related area may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equaling six (6) months of experience to a maximum of four (4) years for a Bachelor’s degree.
A Master’s degree in management information systems, computer science, electrical engineering or related area may be substituted for one (1) additional year of the General Experience.
Relevant certification in management information systems, computer science, electrical engineering, project management or related area may be substituted for up to six (6) months of the general experience.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Incumbents may be required to travel within the State in the course of their daily work.
