Hybrid Powertrain Engineer (m/f/d) - Munich A growing aerospace company in Munich is hiring a Powertrain Engineer to design, develop, integrate, and test hybrid-electric propulsion for a next-generation heavy-duty UAV platform. This is an end-to-end ownership role on a serial hybrid / range-extender (REX) architecture: an internal combustion engine drives a generator that supplies the aircraft’s electric propulsion system. Location: Munich, Germany Salary: €80,000 – €120,000, depending on experience What you will do Design and develop serial hybrid-electric powertrain architectures (range-extender configurations), combining combustion engines, generators, and power electronicsOwn hybrid powertrain functionality from concept and system architecture through flight-ready integration and deploymentDefine and validate combustion-engine integration requirements for aerospace use, including thermal management, vibration isolation, fuel system, and exhaust managementModel and simulate serial hybrid powertrain performance: fuel consumption, power management strategy, thermal behavior, and weight/energy trade-offsSpecify and integrate generator sets, power electronics, and battery systems with the electric propulsion systemSupport component- and system-level testing, including engine test cell, hardware-in-the-loop (HiL), and ground and flight test campaignsWork with propulsion, electrical, structures, and systems teams to integrate the hybrid powertrain into the aircraftSupport certification activities and compliance with relevant aviation and product standards What you bring A degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Automotive, Electrical Engineering, or a related fieldHands-on experience with combustion-engine-based hybrid powertrains, ideally serial hybrid / range-extender (REX) architectures, from automotive or aviationA solid understanding of internal combustion engines, generator integration, and power electronics in a hybrid contextExperience with powertrain simulation and modeling tools such as GT-Power, Simulink, AVL Cruise, or similarFamiliarity with the thermal, vibration, and packaging challenges of combustion engines in weight- and space-constrained platformsA background in testing and validating hybrid powertrain systems (engine test cell, HiL, or flight test)Experience with aviation certification standards (for example CS-23/25, CS-E) is a plus This is a chance to take a hybrid powertrain from architecture to flight on a heavy-duty UAV programme, based in Munich.
