Compiler / Toolchain Engineer Location: Bristol / Hybrid The Company I’m currently supporting an exciting Bristol-based semiconductor company developing highly differentiated processors and software for intelligent edge applications. They’re now looking for a Compiler / Toolchain Engineer to work on a new MLIR-based compiler and DSL which takes a higher-level programming language through to C for their underlying hardware architecture. This is a great opportunity to take real ownership of a new compiler stack, working closely with both the applications and hardware teams on some genuinely interesting and unconventional compiler problems. Compiler / Toolchain Engineer Responsibilities • Design and develop a new MLIR-based compiler and DSL toolchain • Build compiler infrastructure taking a higher-level language through to C • Develop compiler passes, transformations and optimisation infrastructure • Work closely with applications and hardware engineers to shape the compiler architecture • Take technical ownership over the design and future direction of the toolchain Compiler / Toolchain Engineer Background • Strong C++ and systems-level programming experience • Experience with compiler development, language tooling or DSLs • Exposure to LLVM / MLIR or similar compiler technologies would be highly beneficial • Experience with compiler passes, IRs, optimisation or code generation • Strong understanding of low-level software and computer architecture is beneficial The team are ideally looking for someone able to work around 3 days per week from their Bristol office.
