Senior PHP Developer About the role We are looking for a Senior PHP Developer to join the engineering team and contribute to the development and evolution of their healthcare technology platform. You will work on the Expert Medical Opinion (EMO) platform, a complex healthcare product connecting members with medical experts. The role combines development of an established PHP codebase with ongoing modernization towards cleaner, service-oriented architecture and Domain-Driven Design. You will work closely with product managers, internal stakeholders and engineering colleagues in Prague and the US. Key responsibilities Design, develop and maintain backend applications and new features.Understand business requirements and translate them into robust technical solutions.Take ownership of features and deliver them end-to-end.Contribute to the modernization and evolution of an existing PHP codebase.Work with layered architecture, Domain-Driven Design and clear separation of concerns.Design and work with REST APIs and backend services.Write and maintain high-quality unit and functional tests.Participate in code reviews and contribute to engineering best practices.Collaborate with product and technical stakeholders in an agile environment.Work with modern development and DevOps practices, including Docker and AWS.Contribute to architectural decisions and improvements around scalability, reliability and maintainability.Use modern AI coding tools as part of the development workflow, with an emphasis on code quality, architecture and validation. Requirements 5–10 years of professional software development experience.Strong experience with PHP.Experience with a PHP framework; Symfony is preferred, but experience with other frameworks such as CodeIgniter is also relevant.Strong experience with backend web application development and MySQL.Good understanding of software architecture, ideally including Domain-Driven Design, Clean Architecture or Hexagonal Architecture.Experience building and consuming REST APIs.Strong understanding of automated testing, including unit and functional testing.Experience with Git and collaborative development workflows.Experience with Docker and modern DevOps practices.Understanding of cloud architecture and/or experience with AWS.Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.Fluent English is required. Nice to have Experience with AWS services such as IAM, S3, RDS, ECS or API Gateway.Experience with Symfony or CodeIgniter.Experience modernizing legacy applications or moving towards microservices/service-oriented architecture.Experience with static analysis and code-quality tools such as PHPStan, Psalm or Deptrac.Experience in healthcare, regulated environments or applications with strong privacy/security requirements.Experience with server-rendered HTML/CSS/JavaScript and some exposure to Vue.js.
