About The Role
The City of Salisbury is seeking a motivated and collaborative planning professional to join our Development Services team.
Reporting to the Team Leader Planning, you will assess a broad range of development applications and contribute to planning outcomes that support Salisbury's ongoing growth and development.
You will apply your planning knowledge to ensure applications are assessed in accordance with legislation, policy and Council requirements.
This role offers the opportunity to work across a diverse range of development matters, from residential projects through to commercial and industrial developments, while building your expertise in development assessment.
You will prepare reports and recommendations, undertake site inspections, provide planning advice to customers and stakeholders, and work closely with colleagues to deliver quality planning outcomes for the community.
Working with applicants, consultants, community members and colleagues across Council, you will play an important role in supporting the delivery of high-quality development outcomes while contributing to a customer-focused and collaborative team environment.
Your Key Responsibilities Will Include
Assessing development applications in accordance with planning legislation, policies and procedures.Preparing reports and recommendations on development applications.Providing planning advice to applicants, consultants, community members and internal stakeholders.Undertaking site inspections and monitoring compliance with development approvals and legislative requirements.Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to support development outcomes across the city.Responding to development-related enquiries and providing quality customer service.Sharing knowledge and supporting the development of less experienced team members.Contributing to projects and initiatives within Development Services.
About You
You are a collaborative and solutions-focused planning professional who enjoys working with a diverse range of stakeholders and contributing to positive development outcomes.
You bring sound judgement, strong communication skills and a customer-focused approach, along with the ability to manage competing priorities in a busy environment.
You are comfortable balancing legislative requirements, community expectations and development objectives to support well-considered outcomes.
You will also have
Tertiary qualifications in Urban and/or Regional Planning or a related discipline.Experience in development assessment or a related planning environment.Knowledge of planning and development legislation, codes and standards.Strong report writing and communication skills.The ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.Strong stakeholder engagement and customer service skills.The ability to make informed decisions and exercise professional judgement.A current Class C Driver's Licence.Eligibility for membership of the Planning Institute of Australia (desirable).Previous local government development assessment experience (desirable)
